The girls exchanged glances, then each grabbed one of Sarah's arms.
A third girl ran behind her and started pushing her forward while they all took turns sweet-talking her. "Come on, Miss Sanders, we're here representing all the students who are excited to see you. If we go back empty-handed, everyone's going to be so disappointed."
"Exactly! Miss Sanders, you have to at least check out all our hard work."
"Everyone's already having a blast at the field—they're just waiting for you."
Sarah couldn't fight off their teamwork, and she didn't dare use too much force in case she hurt them. She tried to negotiate instead. "Why didn't you guys drag the other professors into this?"
"How do you know we didn't?" The girls burst into giggles like they'd thought of something hilarious.
Sarah had a bad feeling about this. She glanced toward the field and spotted several metal cages with teachers trapped inside—none of them in costume.
So these kids were using Halloween as an excuse to get revenge on their professors?
Now Sarah really didn't want to go.
Suddenly the girls couldn't pull her anymore. Seeing this, they shouted out some guys' names in the distance.
Before she knew it, five burly "monsters" were charging over to grab her.
Sarah was outnumbered and about to cry when someone in a fox mask suddenly appeared to her right.
The girls thought it was one of their friends and loosened their grip.
But the fox-masked person yanked Sarah right out of their hands and took off running in the opposite direction without a second thought.
By the time they reached the school gates, Sarah was gasping for breath. "Okay, okay, we can stop now."
The person pulled off the fox mask, revealing a handsome face underneath.
The moment she sat down, before she could even buckle her seatbelt, a girl with dark circles around her eyes and a white headband popped up from under the seat.
Sarah let out a sharp scream.
Between one thing after another, even nerves of steel would crack under the pressure.
Zachary had already gotten into the driver's seat. Hearing the scream, he turned around and scolded, "Mia, cut it out."
Sarah stared in disbelief, stammering, "M-Mia?"
Caught red-handed, Mia giggled and pulled off the white bandage, running her fingers through her hair. She stuck out her tongue playfully. "Sorry, Sasa! I just wanted to play a little joke on you."
Sarah patted her chest and laughed despite herself, reaching out to tap Mia's forehead. "You little troublemaker."
Zachary set the GPS, and the robotic voice announced: "Your destination is 4.2 miles away. We've selected the best route for you."
