Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 940

Lydia listened to the whispers all around her, looking more and more annoyed as she stared at Alfie. “Get out of my way.”

Alfie held back his urge to snap, still standing right in front of her with a smug grin. “What, getting cold feet already? I thought you were supposed to be all that.”

“There you are, Lydia! I was wondering where you’d wandered off to.” Juna pushed through the crowd and squeezed in beside her.

The second she spotted Alfie and his group, she rolled her eyes. “Alfie, shouldn’t you be off trailing after your girlfriend instead of bugging Lydia here?”

Everyone in their circle knew Alfie was obsessed with Rosie. He chased after her nonstop. Juna’s choice of words made Alfie’s face darken.

He shot back, “Seriously, Juna, are you just mad because no one’s interested in you? Is that why you get so bitter when other girls get attention?”

Juna didn’t even bother with him. She just scoffed. “Maybe get your eyes checked. Me, jealous of Rosie? Please.”

Juna’s fiery reputation was legendary at school. Nobody wanted to mess with her. That was probably why most guys never even tried asking her out.

Alfie was practically vibrating with irritation. He glared at Juna. “I’m here for Lydia. I want to challenge her, not you.”

He didn’t want to argue with Juna. She was a nightmare to deal with and he honestly hadn’t realized she and Lydia were so close.

Juna looked at him like he’d lost his mind. “Wait, you want to challenge Lydia?”

Alfie nodded as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. “Yeah, that’s right.”

Juna almost laughed. “Oh, what, in medicine?”

Alfie’s face twitched. “Computer science.”

He didn’t know anything about medicine and it showed.

Lydia only replied, “I’m hungry.”

She meant it. She wasn’t looking for an excuse. She really hadn’t eaten much that morning.

Alfie and his friends all thought Lydia was chickening out, using hunger as a way out, and they started laughing. The crowd around them seemed to agree; everyone figured Lydia was just too scared to go up against Alfie.

It made sense. Computer science was full of guys and hardly any girls. Most of the big names in the field were men. Plus, Alfie’s family had a lot of clout. Nobody wanted to get on his bad side.

If Lydia wanted to avoid him, no one could blame her.

Juna, of course, always had Lydia’s back. She said right away, “Fine, let’s get some food.”

Lydia nodded. “Yeah, let’s go.”
