CAR-T?
Wait a second... How would Lydia, of all people, know anything about this kind of research? She’s supposed to be a newbie when it comes to medicine.
Angelo and Stellan just stared at each other, wide-eyed. They could hardly believe it.
"Is this really Lydia’s own take on things?"
Desmond knew people would doubt Lydia’s skills. That was fine. This was only the beginning. The real test was still ahead—the debate.
But for now, the votes were in, and they’d backed Lydia.
When the top ten scores popped up on the big screen, the whole room froze.
First place: Lydia.
"No freaking way! Lydia is first? Did the system mess up or something?"
"How is that even possible? Are they saying Lydia’s answer beat Daisy’s?"
"I know, right? I saw her. She barely wrote anything before submitting. How could she have gotten first?"
Fiona and Monica saw the results and lost it. They jumped up, screaming like they’d just won the lottery.
"Lydia! You’re incredible!"
"Seriously, Lydia, you’ve been hiding your talents all along. Daisy’s not going to be able to show off anymore. Serves her right, haha."
Daisy felt like her whole brain was buzzing. She couldn’t take her eyes off the screen, and her face was stuck in shock.
No way. This couldn’t be real!
How could Lydia, of all people, take first place? There had to be a glitch in the system. That was the only explanation.
Silvia was completely thrown. She just couldn’t wrap her head around it. No matter how many times she went over it in her mind, she couldn’t figure out how Lydia pulled this off.
The staff in charge waited to see if anyone else would come up. When no one did, she started going down the line, asking each person what they wanted to say.
Daisy went first, her voice sharp and loud. "I don’t accept Lydia’s score. She cheated!"
The whole room exploded.
As soon as the word came out, a wave of whispers swept through the crowd. Most people already thought it was strange for Lydia to be first. Now, after Daisy called her out, everyone started to think maybe it was true.
The teacher turned to Sandy. "What’s your question?"
Sandy hesitated, then said, "I just want to know how Lydia’s answer managed to get first place."
Patricia jumped in. "I don’t believe Lydia could be number one. She’s barely even come to class since orientation!"
Rosie spoke up next. "There’s no way Lydia did this on her own. Someone must have helped her behind the scenes."
Maisie chimed in. "Lydia doesn’t deserve to be first!"
