Explosions kept echoing behind them, lighting up the night as flames soared into the sky. By the time they finally made it out, the whole research base was already swallowed up by fire.
Back home, just as Connor and his team pulled off their chaos in Country D, wiped the data, and got out safe, things were taking a sharp turn for the worse. All over the city, the clones seemed to get some sort of signal at the exact same moment. Their eyes went cold and empty, suddenly moving like machines, following their programmed orders.
But before they could really do anything, Professor Boris, who’d been watching them nonstop, took control.
At the Norwood family estate, the man pretending to be Mr. Norwood was hit with a wave of dizziness. His vision blurred. Then his whole body started shaking, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t stop it. He pushed himself to call out, fighting to get the words out, but all that came from his throat were muffled, desperate noises.
Right then, the special ops team stormed in.
“Restrain him! Don’t let him out of your sight,” the team leader ordered, voice sharp and clear.
A few members rushed over, pinning him down and snapping a special restraint on him so he wouldn’t lose control again.
“Get him out of here. Straight to the secure facility for testing and quarantine!”
Kylie and Cameron watched as the team hustled Mr. Norwood out to a black armored van. The clone looked just like the real patriarch. Seeing him like that, helpless and restrained, left them with a strange ache in their chests.
“Lydia, they’re taking him away. What’s going to happen to him?” Kylie blurted out, unable to hold back.
