Ready to Rule: The Real Heiress Strikes Back novel Chapter 1083

Lydia waited in her car, tapping her fingers on the steering wheel.

Not long after, a man in a crisp green military uniform climbed out of the car behind her. Lydia arched an eyebrow, watching as he strode over and knocked politely on her window.

“Miss Norwood.”

She rolled down the window and gave him a once-over, not bothering to hide her attitude. “Stalking girls in uniform? You really don’t deserve to wear it.”

It was Harvey, Jackson’s right-hand man.

Harvey looked a little embarrassed but managed a polite smile. “Miss Norwood, please don’t get the wrong idea. We’re off duty. Our general just wants to invite you to dinner, that’s all. Nothing else.”

Lydia had already recognized him, but she played along. “General? Which one?”

“Jackson. Mr. Jackson Hydes,” he replied.

Harvey knew Lydia was with Connor, and she wasn’t someone you could just push around. Still, his general’s status was sky-high these days, and even Connor couldn’t compare. Harvey had expected her to at least look surprised, maybe even flattered. Instead, her face stayed blank.

Lydia just said, “Oh,” then added, “I’ve already had dinner.”

Without another word, Lydia rolled up her window, her voice drifting out. “Tell him to quit playing games.”

She hit the gas and drove off, leaving Harvey standing there, stunned.

Honestly, Harvey knew Lydia was known for being bold, but this was next-level. Jackson had invited her, and she just brushed him off? Did she even realize who he was? Right now, Jackson was the most sought-after man in the Capital. All those society girls would do anything just to get close to him.

Lydia really had no idea what was good for her.

Then she noticed the big bouquet of red roses lying abandoned exactly where the car had been parked.

Rosie felt like she’d just been struck by lightning.

Her friend Maisie saw what she was staring at and followed her gaze. “Seriously, who got dumped? Or maybe some girl just tossed them out?”

Rosie thought of her uncle. He was in his thirties, always buried in work and never interested in girls. Were those flowers his? Or did his aide try to confess and get rejected?

The whole thing was just too weird. When she got back to campus, Rosie told Maisie to go ahead to the dorms. She found a quiet spot and called her mom, Mandy.

As soon as Mandy heard the story, she was shocked. “No way! Absolutely not your uncle. Rosie, are you sure you didn’t see it wrong?”
