Mrs. Hansen smiled, her eyes warm. “You look good no matter what he wears.”
“Okay, Mom, I’m heading out.”
Honestly, the Hansen family had a great vibe. Caspian was their only son, and their family was one of the most well-known in the Capital. If Lucinda really chose to be with Caspian, she’d be set for life.
Meanwhile, everyone in the Norwood family was already home. Even though Cameron and Kylie had told the butler to ask the staff to quit gossiping, Mr. Norwood still caught two maids whispering as he rolled into the main house.
“Can you believe what Lucinda’s real father did? No wonder she refuses to go back to the countryside.”
“Right? If she did, what kind of life would she have?”
“Exactly. If he needed money, he could have just asked Mr. and Mrs. Norwood. They’re not stingy. Why would he drug Mr. Norwood and make him fall?”
Mr. Norwood stared at Kylie and Cameron in shock.
They immediately scolded the maids. “Why aren’t you working? What are you gossiping about now?”
The maids jumped, quickly bowing their heads. “Sorry, sir, ma’am. We are sorry. It won’t happen again.”
Lucinda’s face went pale. She knew it. She just knew the staff would turn what Frank did yesterday into their favorite topic.
Mr. Norwood noticed how pale she looked but didn’t say anything. He wheeled himself into the living room, looked at Cameron and the others, and said, “There’s something I’ve wanted to tell you all for a while, but I never found the right time. Now, I think it’s time.”
Kylie and Cameron shared a confused look.
“Dad, what’s going on?”
She’d thought about this before, back when everything first came out. But with how much her parents spoiled Lydia, she never thought anyone would suggest it, and Lydia would never agree to this. Now, her grandfather was actually saying it for her.
If they really did this, nobody would ever know she wasn’t the real Norwood heiress. She wouldn’t have to feel so awkward all the time. She could finally stop worrying about the snobby kids in the Capital’s social circles finding out she was an imposter.
A wild, overwhelming excitement bubbled up inside her. She couldn’t even put it into words.
Kylie and Cameron were stunned too. They never imagined Mr. Norwood would suggest something like this.
But if they did go public with Lucinda and Lydia as twins, wouldn’t that be unfair to Lydia? Sure, they treated Lucinda like family. But if everyone knew they were twins, so many things would be different.
Like, how would they explain the Norwood-Jefferson marriage arrangement? If both girls were Norwood daughters, why did Lydia get to marry into the Jefferson family instead of Lucinda, who had been their daughter for eighteen years?
Before Cameron and Kylie could say anything, Lucinda dropped to her knees by her grandfather’s wheelchair, her voice shaking. “Grandpa, I love you so much!”
