“Long story short, he said that taking a mission and selling it to the target is equivalent to supervising something then stealing it. However, since you’re the target, we’ll naturally give you the opportunity to escape. You’re free to leave once you pay the agreed amount.”
“R-really…?! T-thank you…!” exclaimed the excited Xavia as she quickly ran over to help Maison up.
However, the blond quickly added, “You should know, however, that my boss also said that the second you leave, we’ll have to notify the client about this immediately. With that in mind, it’s highly likely that the other party will offer us to take on the task again. We, for one, won’t sell out on our mission a second time, so at best, you guys will have about ten minutes to escape. If you’re recaptured, well…”
Instantly going pale again, Xavia then retorted, “T-three hundred million dollars just grants us a ten-minute window to escape…?! Isn’t this extortion?!”
“Mrs. Burton, do understand that we could’ve just ignored your request earlier,” replied the blond man with a serious tone.
“You…!” growled the anxious Xavia. What inhumane people…!
“It’s alright, Xavia. Just give them the card already…” huffed Zivon as he slowly heaved himself up…
Glaring at the blond man, Zivon then added, “Also… Tell your client that I already know who he is. He’d better stop this madness if he wants to remain alive. Now let’s go, Xavia…”
“…A-alright…” muttered Xavia as she tossed the black card at them before tugging Maison out! They had ten minutes to escape a gruesome fate, and every second needed to be cherished…!
As the trio ran, and ran, Xavia suddenly heard a loud ‘thud’ behind her. Turning around, she and Maison quickly realized that Zivon had fallen, and was now kneeling with a single knee!
“Z-Zivon?! What’s wrong?!” exclaimed Xavia as she quickly ran toward him to check on his body… However, she couldn’t seem to find any wounds.
It was at that point when Maison whimpered, “…T-that’s my fault… I gave Daddy a muscle relaxant, and he’s pretty much going to be powerless in the following three hours…”
“…You… What? But why? Actually, you couldn’t have, right? Are you saying this because you’re in shock…?”
With that, she anxiously began looking around, hoping to find something that could help save them… but alas, all there was, was total darkness… Wait. Darkness!
“I got it…! Just hide here and leave once your strength recovers…! Maison and I try to distract them in the meantime!” suggested Xavia.
Upon hearing that, Maison quickly stopped crying before replying, “That… sounds like a great idea…!”
Following that, he and Xavia began pulling up weeds and any dead branches that they could find around them. Watching as the two desperately tried to conceal him, Zivon couldn’t help but feel that this was the first time a child and woman had been this keen on keeping him safe…
That aside, this wasn’t the time to be planning for his safety. All he wanted was for the two to leave while they still could! With that, he was prompted to say, “…Alright, that’s enough cover. Hurry off to safety…!”
Nodding in response, Xavia then added a few more patches of grass before saying, “…Don’t move. They won’t notice you since they’ll be frantically looking for running individuals. Also, Maison? Get ready to run.”
