She was too stunned to reply. After all, since she was lying on the ground, she could see that the sky was limited to a wide circle… They… They had fallen into a pit! To make matters worse, the pit was at least five meters high!
After eventually snapping out of it, Xavia slowly replied, “…I… I’m fine… but this situation doesn’t look good…”
Sensing her shock, Zivon and his son then looked up… resulting in them getting startled as well!
“What a high pit! What’s it doing out here…?” muttered Maison.
“I don’t know but we need to call for help,” replied Xavia as she quickly got to her feet and shook the snow off her body. Following that, she rummaged for her cell phone and eventually found it nested in a pile of snow. Unfortunately, the screen had gone fully dark!
With that in mind, Xavia was prompted to add, “…It’s all over. My cell phone is dead…”
Upon hearing that, Zivon immediately began looking for his own phone, only to hear the now desperate Xavia say, “…Have you forgotten…? You promised Maison that you wouldn’t bring your cell phone along… That way you could focus on him on his birthday…”
This realization made the trio go silent for a while. So… they really had lost all contact.
Though they were momentarily in a daze, Maison—who was the first to snap out of it—looked up before crying out, “Hello?! Is anyone out there? Please, save us! We’ve fallen into a pit!”
When she heard that, Xavia began shouting, “Help! Somebody, help!”
After staring at the yelling duo for a bit, Zivon rubbed his temple before helplessly saying, “…Don’t waste your energy. Wait till you hear someone coming before you start shouting.”
This prompted the two to go silent. As Xavia held on tightly to her child, Zivon began thinking of a way to get them out.
Zivon himself hadn’t expected that nobody would pass by after all this time. What more, he didn’t exactly have a plan yet. Even so, he remained composed as he turned to look at Maison and Xavia before saying, “Take out any useless items you have on you. We need to burn them to keep warm. The smoke may also help attract inspection officers.”
“That’s a good idea!” exclaimed Xavia as she let go of Maison and began sorting out what they could burn. Unfortunately, all they had for fuel was a few pitiful pieces of tissues, their phone cases, their backpacks, towels, and not much else. At most, burning these would give them an hour of fire, but an hour was better than nothing.
“Don’t be discouraged, Maison, there’ll soon be a fire to keep you warm. In the meantime, have some cookies and some warm water,” comforted Xavia as she handed them to the child.
Outstretching his hand to take a packet of cookies, he then opened the packet before handing it to Xavia and Zivon while saying, “Let’s share.”
Upon hearing that, Zivon—who was still trying to start the fire—sternly replied, “I didn’t eat or drink for four days while undergoing survival training in the wilderness, you know? With that said, I’ll survive the night without food and water. You can just share that with Aunt.”
This made Xavia remember Keith’s statement about Zivon having suffered more than anyone else. Feeling slightly uncomfortable, Xavia was prompted to say, “I’m not hungry either. Just finish up those cookies and keep yourself well-fed. Only then will your daddy and I feel at peace.”
