Moving back to Xavia, she soon arrived at Lockhart Mansion…
Upon entering, she was instantly greeted by the sight of a fuming Mrs. Lockhart who immediately reprimanded, “Why have you returned? And you returned in a taxi of all vehicles? Are you trying to imply that the Burtons don’t have a car? Or that the Lockharts are too poor to afford one? It truly seems that you’re trying your hardest to disgrace us!”
As usual, there wasn’t the slightest hint of motherly love from Xavia’s heartless foster mother. While Xavia hadn’t expected much from her, it was still depressing to hear all that.
With that in mind, Xavia simply replied, “Apologies, but unlike Jenna, I don’t exactly have doting parents, nor do I have a driver’s license. In fact, unlike her, I’ve never touched a luxury car in my life, so that further lowers any chance of me learning to drive. With that said, even if you call me an embarrassment, isn’t it all because of your own doing?”
“You…!” growled the furious Mrs. Lockhart.
Not wanting to argue with her, Xavia simply said, “Look, I came over to see Jenna. How is she doing? When’s she finally going to wake up?”
Getting increasingly angered when she heard that, Mrs. Lockart then snapped, “Why? Worried that she’ll wake up and take all your current clothes and food away?! I bet you’re just here to harm her!”
It was clear that everyone assumed that Xavia had ill intentions toward Jenna since she had now finally had a taste of the life of her dreams.
In response, however, Xavia simply sneered before scoffing, “Overthinking things, aren’t we? Look, I came over to tell her that if she doesn’t wake up soon, I’ll quit this act! Let her serve that b*stard herself!”
Upon hearing that, Mrs. Lockhart and Daphne were instantly petrified as they watched Xavia stomp her way upstairs. Did… did she actually call Zivon a b*stard…?! Who in the right mind could hate such a person…?! This… this was simply an act to throw them off, right?!
Not even caring about what they thought, Xavia continued heading toward Jenna’s room… and eventually, she got to her. Lying peacefully on her hospital bed, Jenna’s almost otherworldly beauty wasn’t affected by her sleep at all.
Bursting into the room, Mrs. Lockhart immediately yelled, “You… You said that Jenna had an improper relationship with Keith? What’s your true motive here? Are you secretly recording this conversation and making use of Jenna’s current inability to reply?! You’re trying to frame her while she can’t defend herself, aren’t you?!”
…Was she only good for creating conspiracies? Truth be told, Xavia really wanted to do what Mrs. Lockhart had just accused her of, just to piss that woman off. However, while it was true that they lacked morals, it didn’t mean that Xavia had to imitate them. If that were how the world functioned, then everyone would surely end up becoming a dog in this dog-eat-dog world.
With that in mind, Xavia calmly turned to look at Mrs. Lockhart before saying in a cold and indifferent tone, “Feel free to investigate what I just said once your precious daughter wakes up. Also, I hope you realize that just because you’re unkind, not everyone in the world is the same.”
“Regardless, where’s the doctor? I’d like to find out more about Jenna’s condition and when she’ll possibly wake up. There’s a limit to how long I can be her substitute, and refuse to remain as a substitute for the rest of my life!”
Before Mrs. Lockhart could retort, a hard slap suddenly met with Xavia’s cheek…!
