Plot Twist: I'm Dating Your Best Friend novel Chapter 68

Chapter 68

Cassandra sat silently in the dimly lit interrogation room, with a single desk lamp casting a beam of light across the table in front of her.

When she’d been brought in, the police had already taken her phone.

She waited for what felt like ages before someone finally entered.

Two officers sat down opposite her. One set out a notebook and pressed record on a digital voice recorder, while the other began the questioning.

Cassandra Blake, Simon Dorsey is accusing you of extortion to the tune of 100 million. What do you have to say for yourself?

Cassandra replied, May I wait for my lawyer? I’ll answer once he arrives.

You have a lawyer? When did you hire one?

Officer, I just want to know if I’m allowed to contact my lawyer and have him come to the

station.

Procedurally, she had every right to legal counsel. But the police hadn’t returned her phone, instead offering her the use of the station’s landline.

Cassandra picked up the receiver but didn’t dial for a long time.

The officer eyed her suspiciously. Didn’t you say you wanted to call your lawyer? Why aren’t you dialing?

Her voice remained calm as she said, Officer, would you happen to know your locksmith’s number off the top of your head?

The lawyer’s not family. Normally, I don’t have his number memorized.

So are you just stalling for time, then?

No.

She dialed a number.

Soon, the line connected. Hello?

It’s me, Cameron.

Cameron’s voice instantly became anxious. Cassie? Are you alright? I can’t leave at the moment. Annabelle’s had some complications, and my parents-

I never expected you to come, anyway.

They both fell silent for a moment.

Cameron sighed helplessly. Cassie, just hang in there. This isn’t murder or arson. It’s only about taking that money, and they won’t reach a verdict overnight. Just manage for tonight, and I promise I’ll come get you in the morning. You just wait for me, okay?

I’m not calling you for help. I just forgot Ryan’s number. I need to reach him.

Cameron finally caught on. Right! Ryan’s a lawyer. He should know what to do. He’s probably already on his way to the station, but I’ll call him now just in case.

There’s no need-

Before she could finish, the call was disconnected automatically.

The officer stared at her coldly. Ms. Blake, let me remind you that I allowed this call so you could reach your lawyer, not anyone else.

Cassandra replied, I know your time is valuable, but I hope you’ll be a little patient with me. I only contacted someone else because I needed my lawyer’s number. I’m sure you heard everything I said.
