Chapter 98
Cassandra didn’t have much of an appetite. After eating, she quietly offered, “I’ll sleep on the couch.”
Ryan looked like he wanted to say something, but hesitated. In the end, he nodded without a word.
She knew what he had wanted to bring up. It was something about what had happened at Royal Skyline Tower tonight.
But Cassandra didn’t want comfort right now, and she didn’t need any sarcasm. All she needed now was a bit of silence.
Thankfully, Ryan didn’t push. He simply told her to get some rest and disappeared into the bedroom.
Cassandra had no idea how long she tossed and turned on the couch before finally drifting off to sleep.
In her dreams, she found herself reliving what had happened earlier. But this time, she was the one standing on the rooftop.
The wind howled, and the rain poured down in icy sheets. It lashed at her body, and with the wind’s sting, each raindrop felt like a blade slicing through her skin.
Reporters surrounded her, shouting questions as cameras flashed. “Mrs. Dorsey, how do you feel about Mr. Dorsey’s public engagement to Ms. Green?”
Cassandra’s mind was a mess. She didn’t have an answer.
A policeman clung to her hand, desperately trying to pull her back. “Mrs. Dorsey! Whatever’s happened, we can talk it through! Don’t do anything reckless!”
She wasn’t sure how she had ended up here and only asked, “Where’s Cameron?”
Suddenly, the crowd parted, forming a narrow path. Cameron emerged, carrying Annabelle in his arms. He walked past her without even sparing a glance at her.
Cassandra called out to him, “Cameron!”
But he didn’t hear her. He held Annabelle close and walked quickly through the crowd, disappearing among them.
Then, Cassandra’s phone rang, snapping her awake. Only then did she realize that Stokelle had been engulfed in a torrential downpour for quite some time.
The window was left open, and the couch was placed right beside the bed. The night wind, carrying fine threads of rain, had blown inside and splashed onto her face and body.
Cassandra rubbed her aching temples. It was no wonder she dreamed about being on a rooftop. She had been drenched by the rain all along.
