Boyle seemed to not notice that Cherie was nervous. He crouched slightly to hug her from behind and pointed at the part where she was wrong. “This part is wrong. The answer should be X to the power of four.”
Cherie quickly crossed out the wrong answer and rewrote it to the correct one. She explained, “I-I was too nervous just now. That’s why I made a mistake.”
Boyle gazed at her and smiled, “It’s just an algebra question. Why are you nervous?”
Cherie blushed and lowered her head. “I didn’t know you were standing behind me.”
Boyle was stunned for a moment. “Pack your things. I’ll send you back to school.”
Cherie closed her books and stuffed them all into her bag.
Huntley raised his brows. “Hey, is Cher leaving? Come and play with us next time. Oh, by the way, Boyle and I will be in court at ten in the morning tomorrow. If you’re free, you can drop by and watch us slay our way to victory! Let me tell you, Boyle’s incredibly cool when he’s in court.”
Boyle grabbed a nearby file and threw it at Huntley. “You’re better off being a mute.”
Huntley was speechless.
Was it wrong for him to play matchmaker in his brother’s relationship?
Boyle did not appreciate his efforts. Soon, he would regret being against what he was doing for him!
…
Boyle rode a bicycle to send Cherie back to school.
Cherie sat at the front seat while being hugged by Boyle from behind. She felt as if they were a couple as their positions were very intimate.
The school was still quite a distance away from their location.
Cherie was worried if he would find her heavy.
Fortunately, she did not have anything for dinner.
However, the second she thought about that, her stomach started growling in hunger.
Boyle glanced at her. “Are you hungry?”
Speechless, Cherie exclaimed internally, ‘This is too embarrassing!’
She was in a rush when she delivered his dinner to the law firm and did not manage to eat anything.
“I-I’m on a diet! That’s why I didn’t have dinner.”
Boyle frowned slightly. She was so skinny that he could lift her up easily with one hand. Why did she need to lose weight? “You’re not fat. You’ll regret it if you starve yourself.”
Cherie lowered her head and secretly smiled. He said she was not fat. That implied she was slim in his eyes. Yup, that must be it.
“You sound like my dad sometimes.”
Like her father, he also worried about her health.
However, it felt good to be taken care of by Boyle.
There were a lot of restaurants in the area, and Boyle stopped his bicycle at the entrance of a noodle shop.
“Let’s go and grab some food here.”
Boyle parked his bicycle at the side before entering the noodle restaurant with Cherie. She ordered a bowl of beef noodle but Boyle did not order anything. He was still full from the dinner earlier and did not have the bad habit of eating supper.
When her food arrived, she picked out all the green onions and coriander from her noodles.
Cherie frantically justified herself as she spotted Boyle glancing at the green onions and coriander she picked out. “I’m not a picky eater!”
She was not a high-maintenance girl.
Cherie did not want to look finicky in front of him. If she appeared difficult to take care of, he might not fall in love with her.
He seemed to like intellectual and generous girls like Layla.
Cherie tried to initiate a conversation while eating her noodles. “Boyle, are you close with Layla?”
“Kind of.”
“... Oh.” He was implying that they were close, right?
The noodles were delicious, but she gradually lost her appetite as she ate them.
Boyle glanced at her unfinished noodles. “Are you full?”
Cherie did not want to waste food, so she forced herself to finish the entire bowl of noodles.
...
The next morning, Cherie asked Mandy to cover her morning classes before taking a cab to court.
When she arrived at the courtroom, the trial had already started and the atmosphere in the courtroom was quiet and solemn.
Boyle was the plaintiff’s attorney for this case. He donned a formal black suit with a white business shirt on the side. His long, black trousers accentuated his legs, making them look more slender than usual.
It was the first time she had seen him wearing formal attire. His imposing appearance and aloof manner made her feel as if the two of them were living worlds apart from each other.
When it was Boyle’s turn to make his statement, everything was well structured and spot on. With his calm demeanor, he caused the defendant’s attorney to lose his splendor.
Huntley was seated at the spectator area together with Cherie. As he saw the little girl sitting beside him had her eyes fixated at Boyle, he leaned toward her and whispered in her ear, “Isn’t Boyle amazingly attractive when he’s defending his client in court?”
Cherie’s cheeks flushed like a red apple. “It isn’t like that!”
Hypocrite.
The trial ended two hours later.
Huntley and Cherie decided to wait for Boyle outside the courtroom.
As Boyle exited the courtroom together with his plaintiff, they bumped into the defendant’s parents.
“Lawyer Boyle, I would advise you to drop out of this case. You didn’t get the results you wanted in the first instance so let me warn you’ll that it’ll be the same the next time around.”
Boyle kept his composure and smiled coldly at them.”Since you’re both certain we won’t win in the second instance, why you guys so concerned about me taking this case or not?”
“You!”
Boyle exited the court and met up with Huntley and Cherie.
The plaintiff for this case was a woman called Jeniffer Lahey. She was a girl from the countryside and currently in her third year of university. Not long ago, she was drugged and raped by the son of an influential official. The defendant’s father was a prosecutor and his family possessed influence and authority in society. However, the case was complicated because Jennifer once had a short-term relationship with the defendant. Hence, it was difficult to convict him even with sufficient and strong evidence.
Despite that, it was still remarkably brave of Jennifer and her parents to sue the defendant despite having the odds stacked against them.
At the court entrance, Jennifer’s father shed tears of gratitude while holding Boyle’s hands. “Lawyer Boyle, thank you so much. I don’t know what we would do without you and Lawyer Huntley. Lawyer Boyle, do you think we can put the jerk in jail? I’ll be happier if he just dies!”
His eyes flared up in anger and his teeth clenched upon thinking of the man who had hurt his child.
