Blaine went to work in his study in the middle of the night.
When he noticed the couch, he recalled the horrible sin he had nearly committed with Cindy earlier in the day. Somehow, it made the couch feel like an extremely sore sight to his eyes.
He had the housekeeper swap out the expensive couch immediately the next morning.
…
Early the next morning.
When Ruby woke up the next morning, she walked downstairs to the living room after doing some stretches. However, Cindy was nowhere to be seen.
“Where’s Miss Nelson?”
Blaine raised his brows slightly as he sat by the dining table. “What’s the matter? Do you actually look forward to seeing her every morning?”
Ruby sat across the table facing him, picking up a piece of toast and eating it while she replied, “Oh please, Miss Nelson happens to be your beloved woman. So much so, you’re willing to let her have the entire master’s bedroom just for herself. Why are you even asking me the obvious?”
“I only let her have the master’s bedroom because I can’t be bothered arguing with her,” Blaine calmly explained.
Ruby nodded as she casually said, “Wow, bringing her home with you was also because you just can’t be bothered to argue with her?”
Blaine paused while holding onto his knife, looking up at the envious woman. He found her reaction funny.
“Of course I can’t be bothered to argue with her. That’s exactly why I brought her home.”
Ruby chuckled mockingly.
She picked up her glass of fruit juice and drank a sip.
However, before she could swallow, she heard Blaine speaking with a serious look, “I initially wanted to make you jealous by bringing Cindy home but I guess it has little to no effect on you.”
“Pfft. Cough, cough…”
Ruby choked on her fruit juice.
Some fruit juice trickled out from her mouth.
Blaine reached out from across the table and used the tips of his fingers to wipe the stain from the corner of her mouth.
“No, stop. I can do it myself.”
It was unsure if Ruby actually choked from the fruit juice or if she was too flustered from his remark. She picked up a tissue from the table and hastily wiped her mouth.
Blaine withdrew his arm and grinned as he stared at her face.
…
Blaine went out after breakfast.
He arrived at the Royal Estate.
The President happened to be a member of the Glaceau family. He was Blaine’s uncle, Corry Glaceau.
Corry was dressed in a suit while taking a stroll with both hands behind his back, enjoying the estate’s greenery. He spoke in a casual tone, “Oh Blaine, I’ve always thought of you as a mature and rational man. After all, you’ve been the Director for so many years and have gone through so much. How could you act so impulsively now?”
“Are you talking about the critique I offered at the meeting a few days ago?”
Corry turned around and stared intensely at Blaine before attempting to be long-winded, “As much as I don’t want you to work together with those bunch of snakes, they’re still extremely important for the country. You need to keep a watchful eye on their family’s power that supports them. Although they can’t affect you much, someone in your position still needs to be extra careful of them.”
Blaine was not paying attention as he gave him a calm reply before remaining silent and strolling through the estate with Corry.
Corry chuckled as he said, “You won’t understand the reasons behind my nagging, Blaine. Actually, what’s going on with that woman? Is she actually a part of the Light Organization or not?”
“She was but not anymore.”
Corry frowned slightly as he said, “It seems those elders were not wrong about you. It doesn’t matter if she’s still a part of the Light Organization or not, she was still a member at some point. It’s a label she carries for the rest of her life. I know this is offensive to hear but Blaine, do you think you’ll be able to silence those elders if you’re adamant in staying together with that woman?”
Corry left him with a heavy warning, “Be careful, Blaine! If you’ve decided on it then leave Glacier City immediately. Staying here for even a second longer isn’t safe for you.”
“Alright.”
…
Blaine’s expression looked extremely cold when he entered the car.
Old K took a couple glances at Blaine through the rearview mirror while he drove before speaking in a cautious tone, “Master Blaine, is the President unhappy about Miss Luna?”
Blaine replied with a simple ‘yeah’ before continuing, “I’ll be departing to the Western borders tomorrow. You will be staying here in Glacier City to keep an eye on whatever those elders do. Contact me whenever you need to.”
Old K was stunned as he said, “Were you deployed to the Western borders because of Miss Luna?”
“No,” Blaine replied without any hesitation.
However… No one was convinced by his reply.
Both Blaine and Ruby’s statuses were far too special. Them staying with each other was akin to a ticking time bomb since their identities made it hard for them to be with each other.
Old K asked, “Well then… Will you be taking Miss Luna with you when you depart to the Western borders then?”
Blaine withdrew his gaze before replying monotonously, “I’m not going on a vacation at the Western borders so why should I bring her along? If I bring her with me, those elders will no doubt talk spread word about me bringing her along to warm my bed in the midst of all the chaos.”
Old K did not want to laugh, but he let out a chuckle as he said, “Fair point.”
“However…” Blaine’s gaze dimmed as he continued, “I’m worried that the Glaceau family might treat her poorly. Inform me the instant anything happens.”
Old K was puzzled as he said, “The Glaceau family is your family, Master Blaine. They all know how much you love Miss Luna. Since that’s the case, will they still be bold enough to do anything to Miss Luna?”
“It’s all because of my feelings toward her that they’re trying to hurt me. They wouldn’t be bothered if she was anyone else. However, here’s the thing. I have the tendency of liking women that are different from the norm.”
