After Wilson got up, he patted Ruby’s shoulder and said, “The Director wants to see you, so remember to head over.”
Ruby nodded. After Wilson left the training grounds, she wiped her face with her hands before getting up to head over to the Director’s office.
In the Director’s office.
“You were looking for me, Director?”
Stephen had brewed some expensive tea. He was taking small sips before calmly saying, “Do you know that Frost Blade is already on his way to save you?”
Ruby was stunned as she squeezed her thighs with her fingers while shaking her head with a neutral look and replied, “No, I didn’t.”
“Ruby, well done with your mission. This happens to be the first major mission you’ve carried out on your own after coming of age. I’m everyone’s master and that makes me a father-figure for you guys. Oh, how you’ve grown, Ruby. I’m proud of you as your master.”
Ruby pouted her lips before staring at Stephen and saying, “Since you’re our father-figure and master, how could you use me as bait?”
She spoke in a very clear and questioning tone.
Her glare felt sharp and judgemental.
Stephen met her gaze as he paused while holding onto the teapot. After a brief moment of silence, he cracked a mysterious grin while pouring the boiling tea into his teacup, hot water vapor wafting from his cup.
“Are you questioning your master, Ruby? Do you think it’s unfair for me, your master, to make you do that?”
Ruby bit her lips as she replied with a determined gaze, “I wouldn’t dare to think so.”
However, she clenched her fists tighter as she said that.
Stephen was exceptionally talented in reading people’s intentions and thoughts. He clearly understood what Ruby was thinking about and how she felt.
“Ruby, before I sent you over to R Country, I explicitly told you that you’re allowed to do whatever you want except for developing any attachments or feelings. You’ve developed feelings for Frost Blade now, haven’t you?”
“No,” she replied without any hesitation. However, not only was Stephen unconvinced by her reply, it was even unable to convince her herself.
However, if she could actually control her feelings, they would not be real anymore.
A person could control their thoughts and mental capacity to a certain extent, but their own feelings were beyond their control.
“Just wait for me to settle my negotiations with Frost Blade. After that, all of Mt. Quinn, the territory you’ve always asked me for, is yours. This will be the compensation for your mission.”
…
Ruby was tossing and turning sleeplessly in the middle of the night. Therefore, she decided to put on her jacket, get up, and take a stroll in the Light Organization’s base of operations.
Tonight’s moon was full and the night sky was illuminated by plenty of bright stars.
However, she was in no mood to enjoy this beautiful night.
Wilson approached her with two cans of beer in his hands before sitting beside her. He handed one of the cans to her and spoke with a chuckle, “It seems your mood isn’t that bad if you’re still able to come out here to watch the moon.”
Ruby pulled the tab open as foam overflowed from the top of the can. She tilted her head back and took a gulp before saying, “I talked back at the Director today.”
“I heard.”
“Am I unruly?”
Two in the morning.
In the meeting room of the Director’s quarters.
Both Stephen and Blaine were seated at the opposite ends of the long meeting table. They stared intently at each other while talking.
Since Stephen clearly had the upper hand, he spoke in a very calm tone, “I never expected the Dark Organization’s Director, the ruthless killer Frost Blade, to storm the Light Organization’s base alone for a woman. This is truly a commendable act.”
Since Blaine knew he would be coming here, he did not come unprepared. He knew Stephen far too well as he said, “Quit beating around the bush. I want to see her.”
“Are you absolutely sure that you want to meet her, Director Glaceau? I’m worried that you might feel disappointed with your feelings after learning the truth.”
Blaine clenched his fists underneath the table. His purpose here today was to see for himself just what kind of woman he had given his heart to.
“If I don’t meet her, you can keep dreaming about getting what you want, Director Stephen.”
Stephen nodded and clapped his hands before saying, “Come on out, Ruby.”
Blaine raised his eyes and looked over. He saw a woman dressed in a black leather coat. Her face was uncanny to his Softie. However, her temperament felt completely different. She felt like a stranger to him.
Although his Softie seemed cold whenever she was not speaking, those cunning eyes of hers were filled with subtle joy, like a galaxy of scattered stars were contained in them. Her eyes were usually bright and clear.
Although the woman in front of him had the same beautiful face, her gaze felt cold as she looked at him.
The aura emanating from every inch of her body felt exactly like what a well-trained private militia should have.
Although his Softie was more mature, determined, independent, and intelligent than other women close to her age, she would also have a childish side whenever she was in his presence. That side of her was more flirtatious and dependent on him, and she was also more in love with him when she was like that.
