It would be impossible for Wilson to miss what she said due to how good his hearing. Therefore, he asked, “I heard you said you and the baby. Baby… What baby?”
Serene bit her lips and mumbled softly, “... Well, the baby in my belly.”
Wilson was speechless.
His heart was trembling.
The child… Was it his and Serene’s?
Serene cautiously raised her head to look at him. Upon noticing his silence for a second, two, three seconds… Up until the twentieth second, Serene waited. She realized just how unpredictably complicated Wilson’s expressions currently seemed.
The man was peculiarly quiet and calm.
Serene frowned as she said, “Wilson… You don’t want me to be pregnant, right? You don’t like this baby too?”
“...No.”
Serene felt slightly wronged as she lamented, “But your expression tells me that you’re unhappy.”
Even more so… He disliked the revelation.
Serene no longer had the courage to keep asking, so she turned around and faced her back to him. She pressed her little face into the backs of her hand while she cried. She said, “I know you don’t want a child but I’m pregnant now. Do you really not want this child though?”
“Babe, I didn’t mean it that way.”
Serene could not hear a single hint of sincerity from his voice so she continued, “It doesn’t matter if you want this child or not. I’m keeping it. It’s still a human life and I’m not going to give up on it. If you don’t want it, we’ll break up. I can take care of it myself.”
A glint of light flickered across Wilson’s eyes as he pulled the woman over to him. While facing her, he said, “Since when have I told you that I’d be giving up on our child?”
“Although you’ve never explicitly said it, your emotions show just how unhappy you are. I won’t force you to marry me because of our child. A forced marriage will never be a happy one.”
“Even if you didn’t force me, I’d still want to marry you.”
Serene pouted her lips as she said, “But you don’t want a child, right?”
Wilson replied to her in a clear tone, “I love you and this child too. I was just too excited and didn’t expect us to have a child this fast, do you get what I mean?”
Serene stared at him skeptically as she said, “Excited? Since when were you excited?”
Wilson then held onto her hand and pressed it over his heart as he said, “My current heart rate is at least one hundred and forty beats per minute. You’re a doctor so you should know.”
Serene was speechless.
Indeed, his heart was racing right now!
“Hmm… You’re really excited?”
This excitement meant he was excited and absolutely looked forward to their child’s birth then?
Serene scoffed as she said, “Judging from your tone, you don’t seem to be looking forward to our child’s birth.”
Wilson raised his brows slightly as he teased, “Of course, that little brain is the reason why I have to keep my chastity in check for ten months. How can I look forward to its arrival because of that?”
Serene blushed heavily as she exclaimed, “What nonsense are you spouting about, you ruffian!”
Wilson buried himself against her nape and took a deep whiff of her scent before saying, “We’ll register our marriage when we return to North City.”
Serene frowned slightly as she said, “But my ID is still in Clear River Town.”
“Let’s go look for your parents.”
Serene replied in a concerned tone, “But my parents hate you. If they know you’ve gotten me pregnant, they’d murder you.”
Wilson stared intensely at her as he said, “We still have to face them and besides, I desperately want to marry their most beloved daughter so somehow, I have to pay the price, right?”
Serene was beaming as she reached out to hug his neck and said, “We’ll face it together.”
Suddenly, Serene broke out from his embrace and told him with a serious look, “However, my parents are extremely conservative and might actually beat us to death. Premarital pregnancy is thought to be a very disgraceful thing in a small town like ours. Wilson, why don’t I steal my ID from my house so we can register our marriage. After that, we’ll talk to them patiently in the future…”
Wilson found her anxious look adorable, so he gently brushed his fingers against her face as he chuckled and said, “Babe, are you really that excited to get married to me?”
Serene blushed and buried her head underneath the covers. It seemed that she needed to learn to show some restraint in front of Wilson.
