While Serene was munching on her biscuits while sitting on a small bench, Ruby’s voice could be heard coming from the outside.
“Hurry up and help out! Your boss is injured!”
Serene was completely startled by that as she dropped her biscuit on the ground and immediately rushed out of the tent.
“What happened to Wilson?”
Both Thompson and Ruby were carrying Wilson who was in a semi-conscious state into the tent while saying, “He was injured by a trap on his way into the Underground.”
Serene was shocked as she followed them into the tent.
Upon noticing Serene’s completely frozen and stunned look after Ruby took a glance at her, she yelled, “What are you still standing there for, hurry up and grab the first aid kit!”
“I… I don’t know where the first aid kit is.”
Ruby clenched her fists and pounded her own head before saying, “Good lord, I feel dizzy too!”
One of the private militias rushed in with all the medical equipment while saying, “The first aid kit’s here!”
Thompson sterilized all of the apparatus professionally and told everyone else, “You guys can leave us be. I’ll be fine with Ruby’s assistance.”
Serene mustered up the courage and said, “I’m a doctor. I can stay behind to help you out.”
Thompson was stunned for a second as his eyes lit up when he looked at Serene. He said, “Alright, you can stay.”
Aside from the injured Wilson, only Thompson and Serene remained in the tent.
Serene put on a pair of disposable gloves and started cleaning Wilson’s wound with some Iodophor disinfectant.
Serene noticed some purplish and black tinge around the wound. It seemed like poison. She asked in a concerned tone, “The wound doesn’t look that serious but did Wilson pass out due to the poison that was laced on the traps?”
Thompson lowered his head and was focused on treating his wound. He replied, “That’s right. Some strong poison was laced on the traps. He only got injured for saving Ruby earlier.”
Serene’s hands trembled slightly while holding onto the medical apparatus. While staring at Wilson’s pale handsome face, she said, “He must really think of Ruby as his family.”
“Wilson’s only tough on the surface. Even if a random private militia were targeted by one of the traps, Wilson would do the same.”
Serene smiled as she said, “I’ve always known that he’s a kind person.”
Thompson teased her after taking a glance at her, “Well, he’s your boyfriend. Aren’t you jealous of him treating other people well, such as him sacrificing his life for another?”
Serene shook her head and said, “Perhaps I wouldn’t have fallen in love with him if he wasn’t that kind of person. I obviously hope he’d be able to keep himself safe but he also has a duty to protect his fellow comrades and family.”
Thompson chuckled. He lowered his head and felt very intrigued by her as he said, “So that’s why Wilson likes you.”
Serene stood up and walked out of the tent. She seemed slightly disappointed as she stared at the empty, snowy ground.
If they were unable to find the Venom Toad or the Southern Star herb in three days’ time, would Wilson actually die?
Serene began to tear up when that thought crossed her mind.
She stayed by Wilson’s side as her tiny, tender white hands gripped tightly onto the man’s huge hand. She pressed his hand on her little face as she said, “Wilson Jarret, you need to live. I still have a secret that I haven’t told you yet, so you have to live.”
“Wilson, I’m pregnant now. Therefore, you can’t die.”
Serene sniffled before staring at Wilson intensely as she said, “Our baby and I will be waiting for you to wake up.”
Serene somehow felt such a threat was still not enough, so she added, “If you dare die on me, I’ll marry another man with your child.”
However, the man was still unconscious.
Serene’s eyes turned redder as she teared up.
She stayed by Wilson’s side for the entire night until the first light day lit up the sky. However, Ruby and the other private militia had not returned yet.
Serene pulled the covers over Wilson as she could no longer sit and wait there. Even if she was weak, she would increase the odds of actually finding the Venom Toad or the Southern Star herb out there. As such, Serene put on her down jacket and ran out of the campsite while Thompson had taken a nap.
