Verian Mont took a deep breath. She knew no matter how much she explained right now, Heaton Fudd would never believe her. So, she might as well execute the worst-case scenario, “President Fudd, it’s true that I’ve caused the losses so I’m willing for any actions you decide to do.”
Heaton Fudd’s gaze dimmed and said with a cold chuckle, “The total losses amount to nearly three hundred million dollars. So you think you alone can reimburse three hundred million dollars?”
Three Hundred Million… it seemed she was not even able to reimburse a fraction of that amount right? It would be better to get her into jail than asking her to reimburse three hundred million dollars!
Verian Mont’s heart clenched. She spoke while pouting her lips, “Since I’ve caused such a huge blunder, why don’t you, President Fudd just fire me.”
Expecting her to reimburse the losses was something she obviously could not do. Although it was Nancy Xander that had set her up, it was due to her carelessness that caused such a huge mistake. She might not have a possibility of staying in Fudd group now right?
With that thought in mind, she let out a sigh of relief. If Heaton Fudd was to fire her, she would have a clean start. No matter how awful Nancy Xander disliked her, it would only be a matter of time she received the boot to leave Fudd group. This would without a doubt be the right call.
“The losses were already made, if I was to fire you, it’ll cause a much greater loss. Verian Mont, do you take me as a fool?”
That man who was sitting on the black office chair had no obvious emotions coming from the calm tone. However, it sounded inhumanly cold to anyone.
The gaze he had onto Verian Mont was deep and cold.
“But I made the mistranslation on the agreement. If you don’t fire me, it would be concerning and difficult to calm the masses in Fudd group…”
Before she could finish, Heaton Fudd immediately spoke up in a cold mocking tone, “So this meant you were concerned for me then?”
Besides anything else, this woman was really talented in making others angry.
“I thought…”
“Get out.”
Verian Mont stood there completely baffled for a moment. After being stunned for a couple seconds, she finally turned around and left the president’s office.
…
As she had just returned to the design department in a depressing mood, she was called into Nancy Xander’s office.
“What was President Fudd looking for you for earlier?”
Verian Mont looked at her with a funny look, “Director Xander should be exceptionally clear yourself. There’s only the two of us here so you can drop the facade, Director Xander. The amount I’ve clearly translated was fifty million dollars. It was you who had secretly changed it right?”
Nancy Xander cracked a grin with her red lips. She stood up and intentionally approached her in her high heels with a smug demeanor. She whispered mockingly next to her ear, “So what if it was me. Judging from your look, Heaton Fudd gave you an earful earlier right?”
“Even if I had mistranslated that agreement, you skipped the translating and management department. You handed me that agreement to translate so you’re equally as responsible. Besides, you’re my boss so your responsibility is greater than mine.”
Nancy Xander chuckled as she was not in the slightest taking this whole ordeal seriously. She said, “So what if I skipped a level. Would Heaton Fudd not be clear in his heart to everything that you’ve said? He’s crystal clear but, he’ll never blame me, he’ll only blame you. Take my advice, you should bluntly tender your resignation letter. I’ll approve your resignation.”
Verian Mont dug her nails into her palms as she glared coldly toward her smug look through the bottom of her eyes, “So it’s all because of the jealousy that made you target me regardless of private or business matters?”
“Jealousy?” Nancy Xander scoffed. She glared at her while hugging her arm, “I will be jealous of you? Verian Mont, what I can’t accept about you was your inability to do anything and even so, you could still be by Heaton Fudd’s side. However, you should be clear yourself, the person in Heaton Fudd’s heart is me. It’ll always only be me.”
Verian Mont burst out in laughter all in a sudden. She was laughing in a relaxed and casual manner, “Director Xander, here’s a word for you. Even if I am incapable of doing anything, I can stand by Heaton Fudd’s side in broad daylight. So even though I have left Fudd group, I’ll still be Madam Fudd. I’ll tender my resignation letter to you by the end of the day. Besides, I am no longer interested in staying any longer here.”
“You!”
Nancy Xander went over to Heaton Fudd’s office when it was 2 P.M.
The moment she entered the office, she spoke with a smile, “Heaton, let’s go to Zaynie’s school together. There’s half an hour left before the parents and children’s event begins.”
However, Heaton Fudd did not seem to be getting up. He was focused on his notebook as he was busy with work while speaking in a cold tone, “I have stuff left to do. Go on ahead and I’ll meet you there on time.”
Nancy Xander pouted her red lips. Would this mean that he was not interested in going with her?
“Heaton… are you still mad at me?”
Was it due to last night’s incident or was it because… of Verian Mont’s mistake for the agreement?
After noticing that the man was still silent and was as usual drowning in work, Nancy Xander explained, “Verian Mont had just come into Fudd group and had already mistranslated the agreement, causing such a huge loss to Fudd group. She’s my staff and I know you would be extremely angry about it. I plan… to fire Verian Mont, to prevent her from making a mistake of this scale in future. What do you think… Heaton?’
The man’s slender fingers that were hammering on the keyboard suddenly paused. Without looking up, he spoke in a calm voice, “Verian Mont was not the only person at fault for this incident.”
Nancy Xander’s heart was startled as she heard that man spoke in a slow pace, “As her boss, you know better to run the agreement through the translation and management department first. Instead, you handed the work to the company’s fresh new hire to translate. Nancy Xander, if I agree to Verian Mont’s termination, I’m afraid, you should be terminated as well.”
“Heaton, so you meant to say that this incident was my sole responsibility and not Verian Mont?”
That man looked up and stared directly at her with his dark pearly eyes, “Isn’t that not?”
“But the agreement was translated by Verian Mont. Everyone knew about that. She caused the company to lose more than forty million dollars. If we don’t fire her, wouldn’t that encourage everyone to casually make mistakes in future?”
