Passionate Devotion: Master Fudd's Beloved Wife novel Chapter 416

In the Fudd Family Mansion.

Verian received a call from her brother, Yandel.

“Brother.”

Over the phone, Yandel softened his deep, raspy voice. “It’s been a while since I last contacted you. How are you doing lately?”

Ever since her father, Grayson, had passed away, Verian seldom received any family love and care. She felt a surge of warmth in her heart. With a delighted smile on her face, she answered, “I’ve been fine lately. I was just about to call you. How was mom’s surgery?”

“The operation was successful. The doctor said that she’ll be fine after recuperating and replenishing her body with nutrients. It’s just that she misses you a lot lately. She kept mentioning about you and was worried that you might be unable to stand the fatigue of constantly being on the move between two towns.”

A sweet and warm smile appeared on her face. “How about this? When Heaton comes home, I’ll tell him that I’ll go to South City and visit you two.”

“Alright. Let me know once you’ve decided the date. I will send someone to pick you up.”

“Please don’t trouble yourself. Oh, by the way, how are you...and Leannie?”

When Verian mentioned Xylean, Yandel was surprised and kept silent for a few seconds. He then answered in a calm tone, “Still the same, but I don’t have much expectations from her.”

Verian immediately understood his underlying meaning. It implied that there was no development in their relationship and they had yet to break the ice between them.

She avoided this topic and talked about other stuff instead. As they were briskly exchanging greetings, someone called Yandel for a meeting, thus ending their phone conversation.

Verian stared at the phone screen and a feeling of warmth surged in her heart.

Just then, her phone rang again. It was from her high school classmate, Helen. She asked her out for lunch and shopping later.

Verian did not feel like going out. However, Little Jelly Bean was at kindergarten and since she was bored being home alone, she agreed to meet up with her.

After meeting up with Helen, Helen suggested getting a haircut together.

“When I was pregnant, I cut my hair short upon considering that I would have to undergo a postpartum period after giving birth. It’s troublesome to wash my hair during that period.”

Verian stroked her four-month pregnant belly and started to think if she should get her hair cut too.

They arrived at the hair salon. They sat down and a hair styler, who claimed to be of director-level, attended to them.

“Beauties, do you want to cut or perm your hair? Or do you just want me to trim your hair instead?”

Verian hesitated for a moment and from the mirror, she looked at the mundane long hair she had had since young. She suddenly wanted to cut her hair and said in a resolute and bold manner, “I want to cut my hair short.”

“How short do you want it to be? Do you want it shoulder-length hair or just up till the neck?”

“Just below my chin will do.”

After grasping what Verian wanted, the hairstylist then gestured her to the shampoo area. “We’ll wash your hair first.”

After the haircut, Verian felt her head become much lighter than before. It was her first time cutting her hair so short.

When they came out of the hair salon, she kept looking at her reflection through her phone screen and asked Helen, “Is my hairstyle okay? Does it look weird?”

Helen chuckled. “How is it weird? You look so pretty. Women should frequently change their style in order to look fresh. Besides, with short hair, it’ll be more convenient when you wash your hair.”

“That’s true. It takes a long time to dry my hair after washing it.”

When they were having a meal, Verian could not help but take a selfie and send it to Heaton.

Meanwhile, in the Fudd Corporate Building.

Heaton was in a meeting when he received a WeChat message. As the message was from Verian, Heaton did not hesitate and tapped on the WeChat app to view it.

The moment he saw the photo, he creased his brows and showed a strange look on his face. The executive officers in the meeting room looked at each other in dismay. They thought something big had happened.

“President Fudd, do you think this proposal is good to go?”

Heaton did not answer them. He stared at his phone and his worried frown deepened.

Everything was fine. Why did she suddenly cut her hair short?

“President Fudd?”

Heaton placed the phone down and nodded. “There’s no problem with the proposal. However, we need to follow up on the progress.”

“Noted, there’s no problem with that.”

When the meeting ended, Kush handed a document over to Heaton to get his signature.

Heaton asked abruptly, ” Are there any implications when women suddenly cut their hair short?”

Kush startled for a moment and answered, “Generally speaking, the reason why women suddenly cut their hair short is because they want to bid farewell to their past or forget about some intrusive thoughts they have in mind. As the Chinese proverb goes, cutting hair is like cutting your worries away. That’s the underlying meaning behind this.”

Bid goodbye to her past? Forget about some intrusive thoughts?

“Bid farewell to the past? Who do you want to forget?”

He was her past, right? Who else could it be?

Verian was dumbfounded for a moment. “I’m not bidding farewell to anyone. I just wanted to get a haircut. I’m sick of having long hair.”

She brushed her hair and asked in uncertainty. “Does it look bad on me?”

Judging from his gaze, he seemed to dislike her short hair.

She looked nice in short hair but it made her look too delicate in his eyes.

Heaton did not say much along their way back home.

Verian thought he was angry at her. As they reached home, Verian ran toward him from behind and said, “If you don’t like it, I won’t cut it short anymore and keep my hair long instead. In fact, I’m not used to looking at myself in short hair too…”

Heaton turned around abruptly, inching closer to her as he embraced her in his arms. In a deep voice, he affirmed her, “As long as Mrs. Fudd did not want to cut me out of her life, she can do whatever she wants with her hair.”

“... I merely heard that it’s difficult to wash hair during the postpartum period and that’s why I cut it short.”

Verian found him hilarious and wrapped her arms around his neck in response.

The man tousled her hair and looked into her eyes affectionately. “You look far too young and petite, just like Little Jelly Bean.”

Verian grabbed hold of his hand to stop him from messing up her hair. “Could it be that Mr. Fudd is having a crisis?”

“You’re pregnant with our second child and dare run away from me?”

Heaton bent his waist, lifted her, and carried her in his arms.

“Oh, by the way, my brother called me today, telling me that Madam Gaunt misses me a lot. I want to go to South City and visit them. Is that okay?”

“I have a lot of work matters to deal with. I can’t afford to take leave.”

Verian winked at him with a roguish smile. “I can go myself since I’m the one Madam Gaunt wants to meet.”

“Mrs. Fudd, you want to ditch your husband behind and wander happily outside again?”

Verian was speechless.

‘I’m innocent okay!’ Verian exclaimed internally, feeling helpless.
