Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 782

Raymond worked much faster than Diana had expected.

The next evening, just as the city lights flickered on, she had barely returned to Seraph Villa when his call came through.

A little surprised, Diana answered. "What happened?"

The Kingstons' influence in Brimcrest was considerable. If Leon had learned in advance that Raymond was coming back, he could easily have changed his plans.

"Handled."

Raymond's reply did not quite answer her question.

Even so, Diana immediately understood. She instinctively glanced at her phone screen. "You're sure?"

It had just turned 6:00 p.m. That group probably had not even reached the private room yet.

Raymond sounded as though he had just witnessed an entertaining spectacle, laughter lingering in his voice. "Sure. But it wasn't me. It was Hugo."

Since he had not been the one to intervene, he had no intention of taking the credit.

Diana frowned. "Isn't he in Norchester? He's back in Brimcrest?"

"Mm." Raymond glanced toward the closed private-room door a short distance away before continuing, "He showed up about five minutes ago and stopped your father's former subordinates right outside the door. Leon barely managed to exchange a few words with them."

His voice carried unmistakable amusement. It was the first time he had ever seen such a wide range of expressions flash across his former brother-in-law's face.

The relish in Raymond's tone grew more obvious as he replayed the scene. "You should've seen Leon's face. It was dark enough to drip ink. But he couldn't lash out at Hugo in front of those old subordinates. The moment he did, he'd lose whatever goodwill he still had with them."

Diana fell silent for a moment before asking, "Where's Hugo now?"

"Still at the White Crane. He probably has something to say to Leon."

After a brief pause, Raymond added, "It doesn't look like they're planning to leave it at that."
