Leon's brow furrowed as he told his driver to pull over.

They stepped out one after the other and moved beneath the shadows of the trees lining the pavement.

"You waited here on purpose." Something in Leon's voice carried an emotion he couldn't quite identify.

He and this half-brother had always kept their distance. Whatever brought Hugo there tonight, it was no coincidence.

Hugo stood with one hand tucked into the pocket of his overcoat, his posture loose and unhurried. The easy warmth he showed around Diana had vanished completely. In its place was something cold, sharp, and unfamiliar.

"Convenient timing," he said flatly. "Though I did want to talk."

Leon studied him without much surprise. If anything, his curiosity had been stirred. "About what?"

He genuinely couldn't imagine what they had to discuss. The inheritance? That matter had already been settled. Beyond that, they had never shared a single common interest or hobby.

Hugo glanced at him, his tone almost casual. "About your divorce from Diana."

At the mention of it, Leon's expression eased slightly. "I know you don't want us to divorce. But don't worry. Diana is just angry. Once she's had time to cool off, she'll still be your sister-in-law."

He had a fairly clear idea of Hugo's thinking. From the moment the marriage had been arranged, Hugo had treated Diana like a real older sister. A divorce would create distance between the two families, and between Hugo and Diana as well. That was what probably had him so worked up.

A cold trace of contempt flickered through Hugo's eyes. "Leon, you're fooling yourself."

Leon frowned. "What?"

"I want you to divorce her." Hugo held his gaze without blinking, every word calm and deliberate. "Diana has already made her decision. Stop wasting her time."

On the surface, it sounded like advice. The warning beneath it was far harder to ignore.
