Chapter 682
This time, it was not just Sydney. Even Julian showed a flicker of surprise.
Sydney pressed her lips together and continued, “I just went to the police station. Penelope said something similar.”
Julian understood at once. “It’s too much of a coincidence. That’s why you want to get to the bottom of it, right?”
Sydney nodded. “Yeah.”
If it had only been Jeremiah, she might have talked herself out of it. But now two people who did not even know each other had said the same thing.
No matter how much she trusted the Huttons, she still had to ask herself:
What if?
Her adoptive parents had saved her life and raised her. She could never repay that debt. She could not let their deaths be glossed over because of her own private feelings.
Besides, the Huttons were not only Florence and her offspring. There were others in it as well.
Julian squeezed her palm, offering silent support. “From everything I’ve seen over the years, the Huttons would never be careless in anything involving drugs. But Elliot is already looking into it. We’ll have an answer soon.”

Sydney was not surprised that he spoke for the Huttons. Even she leaned toward believing them.
Of course Julian, who had known the Huttons for years, would do the same. If he did not, he would not be Julian. And because someone as cautious as him spoke so firmly, the panic in Sydney’s chest eased a little.
When they returned to Delta Mansion, Sydney ate a little, then went upstairs for a nap.
After she fell asleep, Julian ft the bedroom and went into the study. He picked up his phone and made a call.
“I’m busy. Keep it short.”
Raymond had just taken over James’ duties and was buried in work. He honestly had no idea why siblings in powerful families fought each other for jobs like this.
“Short?” Julian considered that for a moment, then said the shortest thing possible. “Your family has a blood debt with Sydney.”
Raymond had been listening to his assistant’s report. Those eight words nearly fried his brain.
“What the hell? Since when is it a blood debt?” He shot to his feet at once, frowning as he waved his assistant out.
Once Julian confirmed he was no longer occupied, he calmly explained the entire chain of events.
After hearing it, Raymond swore under his breath and snapped, “That’s obviously someone trying to drive a wedge between people. And you call that a blood debt?”
For a second, he thought brother and sister were about to become enemies.
Julian said, “Weren’t you the one who said to keep it short?”
“Fine. My mistake.” Raymond could not win against him anyway, but he did not dismiss how serious this was. “I’m telling you right now, this is impossible. No matter what, my family would never get mixed up in something like that.”
Julian still sounded unconvinced. “You can be sure?”
“Of course I can.”
