Sydney nodded and did not press further.
She had worried too much. Eric was not a sentimental man. With Julian involved, he was even less likely to go out of his way for Penelope. That would mean openly setting himself against Julian.
A bastard son who had survived and even prospered in the Wolfen family for so many years was not foolish enough to miss that.
After breakfast, Tiffany received a call from the law firm and had to leave.
Sydney looked reluctant. "We finally had a chance to go shopping..."
"My baby." Tiffany had the vague sense that pregnancy had made Sydney more sentimental. She could not help but laugh. "I'm just meeting a client, not leaving for a long business trip. If you want to see me, just send a message."
Sydney thought about it and realized the mood had come out of nowhere.
In the past, Tiffany had traveled all the time. Sydney had lived alone at Haven and never felt much about it.
Maybe people simply should not be too idle.
Raymond rose to his feet as if it meant nothing.
"I'm heading back to the Hutton Group anyway. I can drop you off." His tone was so casual it sounded like a throwaway line.
Tiffany slowed slightly, then pointed toward the front yard. "Thanks, Mr. Hutton, but I drove."
After reminding Sydney of a few things, she hurried off in her soft leather flats.
Sydney still had things on her mind. She turned to Julian. "You two talk. I'm going to make a call."
Once she headed to the back garden, Julian checked his watch, then looked at Raymond and struck neatly where it hurt. "Both women are gone. You can leave now too, right?"
Raymond had already been annoyed after striking out again. He looked over and ground out, "Don't forget. I'm your brother-in-law."
He did not need to say it. Julian could not forget.
Julian was not trying to push him over the edge. "Of course not."
