Megan's body went rigid. In the next instant, she shot to her feet. "I'll do it. I'll find a way."
When she looked at Tristan now, only caution remained in her eyes.
She had almost forgotten that she no longer belonged to the Hutton family. She had no leverage left. If he had rescued her for this purpose, then the moment she failed, he could send her back without hesitation.
Tristan lifted his gaze and studied her for a long moment before sliding his phone into his pocket. "That's better. Smart people know when to bend."
Megan clenched her fists. After a brief pause, she asked in a steady voice, "Do you want Sydney dead?"
"Do you want the answer to be 'I do'?" he returned casually.
Of course she did. Otherwise, why would she go to such lengths? Not merely to avoid going back to jail.
"If you do, even better," she said.
Tristan showed no surprise. He arched his brow. "I do."
The last time, he had shown her mercy, and she had taken advantage of it. There would not be a second chance.
Megan exhaled slowly. After weighing her options, she said, "This won't be easy. I need time."
"Ten days." His tone hardened. "Not a minute more."
She had no choice but to nod.
With his objective secured, Tristan did not linger. He left men behind to watch her and headed for the door.
Just before he stepped outside, she called after him. "Who exactly are you?"
He paused but did not turn. "Who I am won't change the outcome."
Then he walked away.
"Relax." She offered no further explanation. She returned to the living room and dialed a number from memory.
The call connected quickly.
"Who is this?"
"It's me. Megan."
"You?" The voice on the other end rose, shrill with rage. "You have the nerve to call me? Weren't you arrested? Why haven't they executed you…"
Megan pulled the phone slightly from her ear and waited for the outburst to subside. When the shouting stopped, she spoke evenly and ignored every insult. "There's an opportunity to have Sydney killed. Do you want it?"
A brief silence ensued.
Then the voice on the other end cooled at once. "What opportunity?"
