Chapter 160
Last night, Jonathan had suddenly dragged me to Willowcreek, and the two of us had had a pretty bad fight.
Then he left me here and disappeared.
I still didn’t know where he’d gone, or how I was supposed to get back.
I sighed and said, “I’m not at the hotel anymore.”
“What?” Frederick sounded surprised. “When did you leave? Why didn’t you tell me?”
He probably thought I’d left that morning. I could only shake my head and say, “It’s a long story. You should head back for now. I’ll call you if anything comes up.”
He sounded like he still wanted to say something, but in the end, he just let it go. “Alright, I’ll hang up then.”
After the call ended, I flopped back onto the big bed.
I thought I could fall back asleep for a bit, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t. Frustrated, I raked a hand through my tangled hair and threw the covers off.
I got up and walked into the bathroom. One glance at the dark circles under my eyes made me
sigh again.
I didn’t feel great, but I still needed to pull myself together.
Just then, a message came in from Gabrielle asking if I had time to stop by the office.
I called her back directly. “What’s up?”
Gabrielle sounded tired, maybe even a little stressed. “Can you come by Millenia? Jonathan finally agreed to let you resign, but he said you have to come in and submit the resignation in person.”
I froze for a second, exasperated. “My resignation isn’t a request, it’s a notice. Why does he get to approve it?”
“There’s nothing I can do. If you don’t show up, HR can’t move forward with anything,” Gabrielle said, clearly conflicted.
“They’ve been asking me nonstop, and honestly, I don’t even know what to tell them anymore.”
I didn’t have much of a choice. Since she’d put it like that, I could only agree.
“Don’t worry, I’ll come in and handle everything today.”
