Xenia looked worried. "My dad would never try to kill himself."
Noelle spoke up, "I know your father wouldn't commit suicide. The Merlocks must be behind this."
However, stopping the Merlocks wouldn't be easy. Sean would be in danger as long as he remained in prison. Even if he survived this round, what about the next?
Carl stepped over to Noelle. "Don't worry. I'll make sure he recovers as long as he's still breathing. We won't let the court hear the case separately."
Before Noelle could respond, Xenia rushed up and clutched Carl's arm, tears running down her face. "Carl, you have to save my dad. He's the only family I have left."
Even though Xenia felt that everything she was going through now was because of her father, she still couldn't help but worry that his life was hanging by a thread.
Carl cast her a look of distaste and pulled his arm back. He sounded indifferent. "I will save him for the family's sake."
"Thank you, Carl! I knew you cared about me." Xenia smiled while tears streamed down her face. Her teary expression painted her in an endearing light.
But Carl wasn't moved. "I'm doing this for the Liddells. Not for you."
Xenia's smile froze, and she stared at him in shock. She finally realized Carl never cared about her.
Just then, the doctor came out of the operating room. "Who's the patient's family?"
Xenia stepped forward. "I am. How is my father?"
"He shoved a toothbrush down his throat. Fortunately, we found him in time, and he missed any vital organs. He's been stabilized. But we're not sure if he'll damage his voice."
Noelle sighed in relief. "So he's alive."
They still had hope as long as he wasn't dead. Jeremy was worried earlier. Things would have gotten complicated if the key witness had died.
He looked at Noelle. "We need someone watching over him. The Merlocks might try again."
