Cedric hadn't expected Noelle to take the blame upon herself.
Worried she might overthink, he quickly explained, "It's because of the Merlock family. They came to my mom earlier and asked her for help, but she refused. That's what made her upset and ill."
Upon hearing this, Noelle fell silent. So, that was the truth.
She knew Ruth and Emma had been dear friends for decades. They'd always been extremely close, so it wasn't surprising that Ruth would turn to the Greene family's help in a crisis.
Noelle hesitated and said, "But Mrs. Greene has always trusted Mrs. Merlock and stood by the Merlock family. You must feel torn between two sides."
"Why are you overthinking, silly? My mom was deceived by the Merlock family all this time. She's probably just realizing who they really are, and that's too much for her to take in right now. It has nothing to do with you."
Noelle still felt uneasy.
"You don't have to dwell on it. I'll stick to our plan and send Sean to the police station. Tilly will pick you up shortly, so you two can go ahead."
"Got it. You take care of Mrs. Greene. I can handle everything on my own."
After hanging up, Noelle didn't think much further and set out right away. On the other end of the call, Cedric stood heavyheartedly. They'd finally come to this point.
Just then, Ruth approached. His eyes were red from crying as she said, "I don't know why your mom was so mad that she fainted. Please have the doctors run a full checkup. I'm worried there might be something more serious going on."
Cedric's expression was cold. "This is a Greene family matter. Please leave at once."
Ruth's face stiffened. "It was just a little fight. We've been close for years, and I'm sure we'll make up soon. I still care for her health regardless of what happened."
Her words made Cedric sick. He looked at her with disgust and snapped, "If you really cared, you wouldn't have manipulated or confronted her last night. She wouldn't be in this state if it weren't for you."
