After doing all that, Noelle felt a wave of satisfaction seeing the two of them soaking wet. She wiped her hands and looked at them. "Are you awake now?"

Frank was the first to speak. "Noelle, what are you doing? You know Donovan never apologizes. Doesn't that show he realized he was wrong?

"Can't you give him another chance? After all, we're not fortune-tellers. We couldn't have known Xenia's father was behind this."

They would never have brought Xenia into the Liddell family if they knew.

Donovan wiped the water off his face. "Noelle, do you really think you could've done better than us? Just because someone has a criminal record doesn't mean they can't turn their life around."

Noelle scoffed. "Don't act high and mighty with me. If it were me, I never would've brought Xenia into the Liddell family and raised her as one."

Frank tried to defend Donovan. "Donovan only did that because he thought Xenia's father saved you and wanted to repay that kindness."

Noelle rolled her eyes. "There are many ways to repay a debt. He could've given her money to live comfortably for the rest of her life. But he just had to bring her into our home. Do you think I don't understand Donovan's motives? He just wanted to build a good reputation for himself."

Whether it was hiring Xenia's father or taking Xenia in, Donovan was always doing it for his glory.

Donovan snapped. "I was doing the right thing back then!"

Noelle sneered. "Sure, you think you're always right. You've never believed you did anything wrong. That apology earlier was a ruse."

Donovan fell silent. Noelle snorted. "I'm sure we know each other well enough after all these years."

Frank stepped forward to defend Donovan, but Noelle cut him off. "You're no different."

And with that, she turned and entered the lift. She thought about how Donovan and Frank had tried to put on a good-cop-bad-cop routine earlier, which was laughable.

Did they seriously think that would make her feel pity, forgive them, and then share her findings on Xenia's father just to ease their guilt?
