The Merlock family had no evidence and couldn't do anything to Noelle. But Noelle was curious. How had Samantha come to suspect her?
Had the Merlocks already found out?
Noelle thought it over and quickly messaged Cedric, "Are you there? I need to tell you something. Samantha just came looking for me. She suspects I'm connected to Mrs. Merlock's disappearance."
Cedric called her the very next second, but Noelle declined the call.
She texted back, "I'm in class. Samantha is watching me from the back. I can't talk right now."
Cedric replied, "I didn't leak anything to the Merlocks. But they must have been investigating and found out that the incident years ago was linked to your family. That's probably why they're turning their suspicion on you now."
Noelle frowned. "But even if they suspected the Liddells, they should be going after Donovan. And we were the victims. Why is Samantha coming after me?"
She sent that message, then paused as something clicked—someone fed Samantha the idea. It must have been Xenia. That bitch had overheard Donovan mention something about Ruth's disappearance.
Xenia must have deliberately leaked the information to Samantha to cause trouble for Noelle.
Cedric pondered over Noelle's text for a moment. "It's not impossible."
Noelle texted, "Samantha probably told Laura, too. I'm guessing she's coming after class to corner me."
Cedric grew worried. "I'll come over."
But Noelle quickly responded, "No need. I can handle it. It'll just make things more suspicious if you show up now."
Besides, she wanted to test what Laura knew. Laura might know what Ruth was hiding!
Cedric saw how insistent Noelle was and relented. "Alright. Contact me immediately if anything happens."
