Cedric noticed the sudden appearance of the Liddell family members as he turned his head.
Noelle sneered. "They probably heard about the school event and brought Xenia along just to piggyback the hype."
Cedric nodded. "More likely, they heard you'd be giving a speech on behalf of the students. Someone got jealous and rushed over, hoping to steal some of the spotlight."
Noelle felt his words made sense. She and Cedric returned to the venue.
Sure enough, they saw Donovan leading a conversation with the invited business owners while Xenia stood beside him, chatting and charming everyone. The mood seemed cheerful.
As soon as Noelle and Cedric appeared, the atmosphere turned noticeably quiet.
When Xenia saw Cedric, a flash of amazement crossed her eyes. If she'd known his identity earlier, she would've long made a move and taken him down. She would never have let Noelle benefit from it.
Donovan's expression wasn't pleasant either. Ever since he found out that Noelle's boyfriend was Cedric from the Greene family, he'd been feeling conflicted.
He vaguely regretted it. If only he'd treated Noelle better, maybe they wouldn't have such a strained relationship right now.
If the Liddell family could establish ties with the Greene family, he wouldn't have had to agree to a matrilocal arrangement with the Cantrell family and endure all the mockery.
Deep down, he felt a little resentful toward Noelle. She knew the Liddell family needed connections right now, yet she kept Cedric's identity to herself. What an ingrate.
Cedric hadn't met anyone from the Liddell family since the last sample exhibition.
Xenia took the initiative to approach Noelle and said, "Noelle, you gave a speech as a representative, but why didn't you tell us? We could've come and supported you!"
"Support? You guys are Maple Enterprise's competitors. Who knows what you're here to steal." Noelle's words were blunt and without courtesy.
Xenia's eyes instantly reddened. "You're overthinking it, Noelle. We're family. Though we might be business rivals, we're still family underneath all that."
