The atmosphere around the living room turned extremely strange. Mia continued, "Mrs. Ivy, why aren't you saying anything?"
Xenia turned to look at Mia and said, "Allow me to explain."
Ivy immediately interrupted her. "I'm her aunt."
Xenia was flabbergasted. "What are you talking about? You're clearly my—"
Ivy's gaze turned cold as she took Xenia's hand. "I am your aunt. I just didn't want to acknowledge you at first because of what your parents did."
She then immediately whispered, "I'll kill you if you say anything stupid."
Xenia immediately broke out into a cold sweat. She then stopped speaking further after that.
Mia continued, "You're Xenia's aunt? So you're sisters with Xenia's mother? But we looked into your background and never saw such a connection."
Ivy explained, "I was given up for adoption back then. I don't really like to talk about my past so that I don't get mocked for it, especially with the Cantrells, where no one really respected me."
Mia sneered in her heart. She could not believe that Ivy would so desperately try to deny the truth that was right in front of her.
She decided to play along for now and feigned surprise. "That still doesn't add up. If you're Xenia's aunt, that means you're the one who rescued Xenia back then."
Ivy put up an apologetic expression. "I'm sorry. I understand that both of Xenia's parents were not exactly the kindest of people, but I couldn't just stand by and watch Xenia die."
Mia's expression shifted. "Ivy, what you did was wrong. So you've been doing all of this behind my back?"
"You're right, Mia. I'm in the wrong for hiding this from you. But I swear that this is the only thing I've been keeping you in the dark about."
Mia snorted and replied, "One is already far too many. Don't you know what kind of person Xenia is? If she died, she deserved it."
