Blake breathed a sigh of relief and continued, "I'd never try to guilt-trip you again, nor will I ask for some fresh start. After all, I've hurt you, and I won't repeat the mistakes I made in the past."

Noelle found his words acceptable. Lucas stepped forward and chimed in, "I feel the same as Blake, and I have to apologize for how foolish I was."

Noelle gave him a brief response in a distant tone.

Carl didn't look too pleased. He glanced at Blake and Lucas, saying, "What are you two doing? Noelle obviously wants to start over with us."

Blake looked back at him and retorted, "It hasn't even been that long after everything we did to her, so how could you expect her to pretend like nothing happened?"

Lucas nodded in agreement. "Exactly, Carl. We're not expecting some perfect reunion. It's enough as long as she's living well."

Carl fumed and snapped back, "She's back to spend the New Year with us; doesn't that show she's willing to start over?"

Turning to Noelle, Frank asked in a careful tone, "Is that true, Noelle? Do you really want to come back to the Liddell family?"

Carl immediately interjected. "Noelle, you promised me, didn't you?"

Noelle responded with a cold laugh. "I promised to come back for New Year's dinner, not to become a family again."

That was when Frank quickly stepped in to ease the tension. "There, there. It's only been a short time, so it's perfectly normal that Noelle hasn't forgiven us. Don't rush it, Carl."

Carl looked visibly upset. Everything had been going according to his plan until his foolish brothers messed it all up.

Noelle didn't care to watch them fight and got up, announcing, "I'm going to my room." With that, she headed upstairs without another word.

After she left, Carl turned and glared at Blake. "What the hell were you doing? She's agreed to come back!"
