"I'm not afraid of falling into a trap. I've got nothing to lose, and I'm a cripple now. What more could I possibly fear?"
Wyatt looked straight at Frank and continued, "Plus, wasn't Noelle planning to do the same thing? If the other party does have something sinister planned, I'd rather be the one to take the hit."
That was how Wyatt saw it. He couldn't swallow his anger, and this seemed like the chance to kill two birds with one stone.
Frank hesitated before looking at the others. "Any better ideas?"
No one said a word, so he turned to Donovan and asked, "Donovan, what do you think?"
"Whatever I say is always wrong anyway, so why bother asking me?" Donovan snapped.
Then, he paused and continued, "Wyatt's right. That woman's already pushing us this far. If we don't respond at all, won't others think we're weak?"
Frank frowned. "I'm just worried that she still has something up her sleeve. What if she hurts Noelle?"
"Someone who hides in the shadows isn't all-powerful. She's probably just afraid of being exposed," Blake chimed in.
He turned to Carl and asked, "What do you think, Carl?"
Carl's expression was grim as he said, "I didn't expect Xenia's mom to still be alive."
Things were already different from what they had been. Now, this mysterious woman claiming to be Xenia's mom had appeared out of nowhere. It made him realize that there were things he might have overlooked.
"If there is someone pulling the strings behind everything, it has to be her," Carl continued. With that, all the strange and seemingly unexplainable things from the past suddenly made sense.
"Noelle has done so much, and we'll handle this woman from now on," Carl said.
Blake nodded. "That's for the best. Noelle just wants to move on and start a new life. We've failed her once, and we'll clean up the mess this time."
