Frank suggested, "Aren't you on good terms with Mr. Greene? Maybe we should ask him to help look for her.
"Of course, we'll be searching, too, but the more people we have, the better. If we can settle this sooner, I won't have to worry about them retaliating against you."
Noelle's gaze sharpened. "You're worried about them coming after me? Maybe you should be more worried about them coming after you."
"I wouldn't be so concerned if they were only targeting us. I'm just afraid you'll get caught in the crossfire." Frank knew better than anyone how much Noelle longed for a new life.
She went quiet for a moment. "You don't have to worry about me. I'll handle them myself."
She hung up after that and turned to Cedric. "You heard everything. What do you think?"
Noelle never intended to hide anything from him.
Cedric calmly poured her a glass of milk. She had been talking and hadn't even touched the glass.
He responded evenly, "They probably took the body because they were afraid you'd use it as leverage."
"But Xenia's mother never showed up when Xenia's life fell apart. Now that she's dead, she suddenly shows up and takes the body. And why is she worried we'll use it for leverage? That doesn't make any sense."
Noelle found Xenia's mother suspicious. She wasn't about to let another killer slip through the cracks. If that woman had nothing to hide, why stay hidden? Something about all this was very wrong.
Cedric nodded. "You make a good point. There's something shady about her. She probably doesn't dare show herself.
"Maybe she had some maternal feelings for Xenia, but not much. Otherwise, she wouldn't have waited until she was dead."
Noelle hummed. "Exactly. But since she took the body, it shouldn't be too hard to track her down."
Cedric looked at her. "I'll have people investigate. We'll hear something soon. And if you notice anything unusual, tread carefully."
Noelle snorted. "She won't make a move. Someone who's stayed in the shadows this long is afraid of coming into the light. But if she does try something, that's the perfect chance to trace her."
