Alfred gritted his teeth with anger. "The Merlocks are irredeemable! Mrs. Greene treated them so well over the years, and this is what they do to her in return? Those ingrates!"
Blake spoke up sarcastically. "If the Greenes didn't help out the Merlocks, they wouldn't have lasted this long. We would've found out about their schemes and brought them to an end much earlier.
"We wouldn't have taken so long to find out the truth about the car accident, and things wouldn't have ended up like this between us siblings."
Thinking about it made him so furious that he almost spat out blood.
Had the Greenes not cleaned up the mess for the Merlocks back then, the Liddells could have noticed something was wrong with the car accident and followed the clues to discover that Sean was still alive.
If that could have happened, they would not have treated Noelle badly for the sake of Xenia.
Alfred was extremely displeased about what Blake had said.
He retorted, "Mrs. Merlock essentially manipulated the Greene family so that she could drag the Greenes down along with her if things went wrong. It wasn't because the Greenes were particularly good at cleaning up the mess or anything.
"The Merlocks were way more powerful than the Liddells back then, and Mrs. Merlock had planned the accident down to the very last detail. If it weren't for the Greenes, you still wouldn't have managed to find anything."
Frank voiced his disagreement. "Do you think we wouldn't have found out about it ourselves? We've always felt that there was something fishy about the car accident. A key witness had gone missing after all."
"So you mean that if Cedric weren't in the car, you wouldn't even have anything to be suspicious about?"
Frank was left speechless in an instant. He realized that they would not have suspected anything if not for the missing witness.
The Liddell family did not have the power or resources to investigate the matter back then. Noelle just smiled as she listened to their conversation.
Carl then looked at her and said, "What are you smiling at, Noelle? Do you also think that we wouldn't have managed to find any clues without the Greene family?"
With that, everyone turned their attention to her. Noelle remained calm. "There's no point in talking about what-if scenarios."
Alfred laughed. "Exactly. Hindsight is 20/20. There's no point in regretting what has happened."
