Cedric immediately pulled over at the side of the road after hearing what Noelle had just said. He looked at her and asked, "What else is there?"
Noelle fell silent for a while before replying. "I remembered someone hiding in the bushes by the roadside."
Cedric explained, "That was probably Xenia's father, Sean. He was afraid he'd die in the car crash, so he arranged for one of his men to wear a human-skin mask and take his place instead.
"The driver tried to flee at first, but he had probably dropped some important evidence in the car and was forced to go back and retrieve it. He probably did not expect the car to explode so soon."
Noelle shook her head and replied, "No, it wasn't just one person."
"Are you sure? Maybe it was just another accomplice."
She thought long and hard about it, but nothing else came to mind. Perhaps she had forgotten parts of the event, given how long it had been.
She let out a sigh and said, "You might be right. Maybe it was just Thomas and nothing more."
The first person they had caught was Thomas, who eventually led them to Sean.
Cedric replied, "What happened back then couldn't possibly be pulled off by a single person alone."
He then looked at her and continued, "Everything's over now."
Noelle nodded. "I know. If I had remembered all of this earlier, Xenia wouldn't have been able to bully the Liddell family for so many years, and the Merlock family would've paid the price much sooner."
Cedric also regretted it deeply. "If that's the case, you can blame me, too. It's my fault for not noticing the Merlock family's schemes back then. They wouldn't have gotten to live out the good life for so many years otherwise."
Noelle pursed her lips and replied, "At least they didn't manage to get away with it this time."
In her past life, the culprits succeeded and lived a good life. She suddenly thought of something and turned to Cedric. "Say, if you had never met me, would you have ended up marrying Laura?"
Cedric frowned and replied, "Don't let Laura's words mess with your head."
"I'm just asking a hypothetical question of what would happen otherwise."
Noelle wanted to know if Cedric and Laura had actually ended up together in her past life. Back then, Cedric was just her online gaming friend, and they had never once met in real life after all.
Cedric glanced at her and replied, "No, I won't."
