Noelle was startled when she saw Laura's appearance. The once-celebrated socialite and wealthy heiress looked much more haggard than before. Despite her meticulously applied makeup, exhaustion and weariness were immediately evident on her face.

Laura had once been as beautiful as a blooming rose, but now she resembled a flower beaten down by rain. She certainly hadn't looked this way when Noelle had encountered her at the mall.

After Laura entered, a bodyguard rushed in. "Sorry, Mr. Hitchcock. I couldn't stop her."

Bradley frowned slightly, then smiled at Laura. "Baby, what are you doing here?"

"If I hadn't come, how would I know what you were doing here? What did you promise me?" Laura stared at him in shock, anger building inside her.

She had sacrificed everything, slept with this older man, and even got engaged to him. She did all that to ensure the Hitchcocks would go after Noelle and her associates. The plan was to destroy the evidence and eliminate the witnesses so Ruth would be safe.

Now, neither task had been accomplished, and this jerk was sitting with the Liddells, talking about some settlement. She could not help but worry about what would happen to her if they reached a consensus. What would become of her already ruined life?

Noelle observed the scene, guessing that Laura had been kept in the dark about this meeting. Then again, it wasn't a surprise. Why would anyone tell Laura about it?

She deliberately asked, "What's going on?"

Bradley quickly responded, "Ms. Liddell, don't take her words seriously. She's just overreacting."

However, Laura wasn't backing down. "Brad, what do you mean by that? You said you'd help my mother get away with it."

Bradley quickly responded, "What are you talking about? I'm a law-abiding citizen and would never do anything illegal. Don't make such wild accusations."

"If you hadn't promised me, why would I ever agree to marry you?" Laura felt completely deceived, the thin thread of sanity in her mind nearly snapping.
