"Do you not remember anything?" I wiped my tears and took a deep breath before looking at Lucas. After all, there were more important things to settle at that moment.
Lucas pondered for a moment. "I remember I was going to meet a shareholder of a company. The shareholder told me to meet him at a restaurant. When I stepped into the restaurant, I bumped into Henry, and he immediately ordered his bodyguards to beat me up."
Still looking at Lucas, I explained, "It was Xena who brought you here. She used you to threaten me to stay away from Alex."
Lucas frowned. "Why? Isn't Alex your brother? Has Xena lost her mind? Why would she get involved in your family?"
Sighing, I said, "Alex isn't my biological brother. Didn't you know? Alex and Xena are getting married."
Hostility flashed past Lucas' eyes. "Xena is… Let me tell you something about Henry and Xena. Henry is an alcoholic, and Xena is a scheming woman who shouldn't be underestimated. Serena, if a woman like her marries Mr. Hastings, you'll suffer in the future."
I let out a dry laugh. Suffering was no longer my main concern. I was going to leave the Hastings residence with Mom anyway.
But when I heard what Lucas said, I could not help but worry for Alex.
Lucas stepped forward and held my hand. "Serena, why are Alex and Xena suddenly getting married?"
I knitted my brows as I answered, "It's a business marriage. You don't know? It was Mr. Schneider who arranged it for them."
Lucas scoffed, "Mr. Schneider? The Schneiders are a joke."
Frowning in confusion, I asked, "Why would you say that?"
Lucas' eyes twinkled. "I get it. Don't worry. I've underestimated my enemies today. But the fact that Xena pulled such a trick means she's desperate."
I didn't know much about the power struggle among the Schneiders. Hence, I chatted with Lucas for a while before returning to my hotel.
As I got to my feet, Lucas suddenly called out, "Hey, Serena."
I turned around to look at him.
Looking a little awkward, Lucas said, "Um… I just wanted to say that if you encounter any problems in the future, you can come to me. I'll help you no matter what it is."
I could not help but chuckle at Lucas' serious expression. "No matter what? What if you can't do anything?"
