If Gideon wanted to see where things went, then maybe they should.
Claudia cleared her throat. “Okay, but you’re not allowed to… while we’re at work.”
“Does that mean you said yes?!” Gideon interrupted excitedly before she could finish.
Their faces were close, and Claudia, blushing, managed a soft “Mhm.”
The weight on Gideon’s heart finally lifted. Overjoyed, he wrapped his arms around her waist and hugged her tightly. “This is great! I finally have a girlfriend!”
Outside the door, several people were watching with great interest.
Kenny clutched his chest. “This is fantastic! Gideon’s finally not single anymore!”
Gideon’s mom tugged on her husband’s arm. “We need to go home right now and prepare a welcome gift for Gideon’s girlfriend.”
Benton pouted. “Isn’t it a little early for that? It’s not a done deal yet.”
Gideon’s dad shot Benton a glare. “You single losers don’t get a vote.”
Benton was speechless.
Fidelia, holding a lunchbox, was about to knock. “Should we go in and give Gideon his food?”
“Let him starve,” Jackie said, pulling her back. “He won’t die from missing one meal.”
“What are you all doing?”
Two nurses arrived to change Gideon’s dressing and saw the group peeking through the doorway. The family turned, and the nurses jumped in surprise.
Oh, my god. They were all VIPs.
The Harvest family, caught in the act, quickly tried to compose themselves.
Jackie stepped in to mediate. “Mom, that’s not the right way to put it.”
Gideon's mom looked at her eldest daughter-in-law, confused.
Jackie said with a straight face, “Dr. Watkins, Gideon was injured saving you. You should take some time off work and stay here to take care of him while he recovers.”
After she spoke, Jackie and Gideon's mom exchanged a look, and both broke into mischievous grins.
Claudia’s eyes darted from one family member to another. Jackie’s words made sense, but their expressions were a little too… suggestive.
The patriarch and his three sons tried to hide their own embarrassment.
Lying in bed, Gideon was panicking. His whole family was being so obvious. What if they scared his new girlfriend away? Would she think his family was a bunch of lunatics?
Gideon shot a desperate look at Kenny. “Kenny, I’m not dying. You guys can all go home now.”
