No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 440

Marcia's attitude was gracious and polite, and there was nothing overtly wrong with her words, yet an undercurrent of assertiveness made one feel inexplicably uncomfortable.

"Dr. Watkins, let me formally introduce myself," Marcia said. "I am the head of The Windsor Group, and I am also the woman who may be engaged to Mr. Ferguson."

She was careful with her words, using 'may be'.

Claudia offered a calm congratulations.

Marcia seemed a bit surprised. "Aren't you curious?"

Claudia shook her head.

Marcia couldn't help but praise her. "No wonder Mr. Ferguson insisted on marrying you back then. You certainly have a captivating quality."

"You misunderstand, Miss Windsor," Claudia corrected her. "Mr. Ferguson's marriage to me had nothing to do with personal feelings."

Marcia wasn't surprised. She openly admitted her interest in York. "Mr. Ferguson is handsome, comes from an impeccable family, and is intelligent, cunning, and capable. He is the man who best fits my criteria for a partner."

Looking at Marcia, Claudia felt a strange sense that she and York were two of a kind. As for the Ann of the past, if York hadn't viewed her through the lens of a life-saving first love, she wouldn't have lasted nearly as long.

Seeing Claudia fall silent, Marcia smiled. "Don't look at me like that, Dr. Watkins. Perhaps because I'm a few years older than you, our views on marriage are different."

"For people like us," Marcia continued, "marriage is built on mutual benefit. As long as the marriage is stable, I don't care if he has other women on the side."

Claudia felt a genuine admiration for this woman. If she'd had that kind of pragmatism back then, she wouldn't have ended up in such a wretched state.

After a long silence, Claudia finally spoke. "Miss Windsor, I wish you all the best."

Marcia watched Claudia walk away with a determined stride, and her expression slowly turned cold. "You've been listening long enough. Come out."

Hearing the lock click behind her, Claudia turned to see York already standing in front of her.

His dark gaze bored into hers. "What did Marcia say to you?"

Claudia shook his hand off, her patience wearing thin. "Just some pleasantries. If you don't believe me, go ask her yourself."

York paused for a moment before explaining, "It doesn't matter what she said. Don't pay any attention to it. I'm not going to get engaged to her."

Claudia was fed up. "York, I don't want to hear anything about your life. Move aside and let me out!"

Faced with her cold indifference, York grew visibly agitated. He grabbed her by the shoulders, pulling her close.

His face was dark, his emotions spiraling out of control as he demanded, "Claudia, why did you let Hugh get so close to you? Why did you let him hold you like that?"
