No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 391

Before they could even reach city hall, York's phone rang.

On the other end, Mark said, "Mr. Ferguson, several board members and your grandfather are waiting for you in your office. It's imperative that you come back."

York glanced over at Claudia.

Seeing her frown, York said into the phone, "Didn't I tell you I had personal matters this morning and wouldn't be in? Send them away."

Mark replied, "Mr. Ferguson, President Lionel has invited the director of that multi-billion dollar project you handled. He's scheduled to arrive at Ferguson Group headquarters at nine. Your grandfather insists you be the one to receive him."

York slowly pulled the car over to the side of the road.

He took off his Bluetooth earpiece and said to Claudia, "Something urgent has come up, and I need to head back to the office first. I'll take you home to rest."

Before York could finish, Claudia's face hardened. "York, what are you trying to pull now?"

Work was a never-ending cycle.

Even if something was urgent, it was rarely a challenge for York to resolve.

York unbuckled his seatbelt and leaned toward Claudia.

"Claudia," he said, "I promised you a divorce, and I will see it through. If you don't trust me, you can come to the office with me."

Claudia hesitated for a moment before asking, "How long will it take?"

"I'll try to wrap it up before noon," York replied.

Claudia opened the car door and got out.

Standing outside, she said, "York, I'll trust you for now that this is a genuine emergency. You go to the office. I'll wait for you at the entrance to city hall. If you can't make it this morning, then come this afternoon. I'll wait there until you show up."

Just as York got out of the car, his phone rang again.

Peter Louis got out of Rock Sayer's car and tried to mediate. "If you two are determined to do this today, York, you go to the office. I'll go with Claudia to city hall and wait with her."

The old guard on the board was relentless, and York's patience wore thin.

When one of the directors proposed removing York from his position as CEO, York immediately threw down evidence of the man's embezzlement, implicating a vice president and several senior executives who were in on the scheme.

The move effectively silenced the rest of the board.

By the time everyone had left, it was already past ten.

York leaned back in his office chair, exhausted.

He tilted his head back, eyes closed, and asked Mark, "What time is it?"

"It's 10:30, Mr. Ferguson," Mark replied.

"Get the car ready," York said. "We're going to city hall."

Seeing his state, Mark couldn't help but advise, “Mr. Ferguson, City Hall is nearly an hour’s drive from here. By the time you arrive, they’ll already be closed for lunch. Maybe you should let Mrs. Ferguson know you’ll go this afternoon instead.”
