No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 390

York moved behind Claudia. He carefully fastened the necklace for her, then gently arranged her long hair over it. This was the first time York had ever put a necklace on her.

He stared at the diamonds on her neck for a long moment, then took her hand in his. Looking into her eyes, he said, "Promise me you'll always wear it, okay?"

They locked gazes again. York's composure was visibly cracking, his expression filled with sorrow.

Claudia frowned slightly, then nodded. "Fine."

They were getting a divorce. What could a necklace possibly represent? She had no idea what he was thinking.

York couldn't stop himself from pulling her into a hug. Claudia pushed against him forcefully, but he only held on tighter. He buried his face in the crook of her neck, inhaling her scent.

"Let me hold you," he murmured, his voice more vulnerable than she had ever heard it. "Just for a little while."

Claudia's struggles slowly ceased. York's arms tightened around her, and he wished he could freeze time in this very moment, forever.

But she couldn't stay still for long. "York, that's enough," she warned, her voice low and firm.

Her impatient tone was like a thousand needles piercing his heart. Once upon a time, he had said those exact same words to her with the same dismissive impatience. He was only just now learning how painful it was to be rejected by the person you care about.

York slowly let her go. The corners of his eyes were red. He swallowed hard, the words catching in his throat. "Let's go," he finally managed to say.

Neither of them was in the mood for breakfast. As York carried the suitcase downstairs with Claudia, they ran into Peter.

Seeing the woman's suitcase in York's hand, Peter asked, "Where are you two off to so early?"

York and Claudia exchanged a look. "I'm going back to my parents' place," Claudia said. Until the divorce certificate was in her hand, anything could happen. She didn't tell Peter they were going to city hall.

Rock clapped his hands together. "It's Monday morning, Claudia's not at the hospital, she says she's going to her parents' place, and she has a suitcase. Where else would they be going but to get a divorce?"

Peter gave Rock Sayer a thumbs-up. He had figured it out too, just from York's reaction. He was just surprised that York, after holding out for so long, had suddenly agreed.

"Hey Peter," Rock Sayer said, "how about we organize a get-together tonight to celebrate for Claudia?"

"Don't get ahead of yourself," Peter said, a little worried. "Let's wait until they have the divorce papers in hand."

Rock Sayer dragged Peter toward his car. "We've got nothing else to do. Let's follow them and see."

"We can watch, but don't you dare get too close," Peter warned him.

York focused on driving, but he caught a glimpse of the familiar sports car in his rearview mirror. Instead of speeding up, he eased his foot off the gas, slowing the car down.
