No Divorce? The Billionaire's Love Chase! novel Chapter 270

Ann's breathing quickened with anxiety. "Mrs. Ferguson, are you perhaps using me to test the strength of York and his wife's relationship?"

Wendy didn't deny it. "If York is willing to divorce his wife for your sake, in exchange for getting you treatment, then you win. Otherwise, you lose. Go home, think it over, and then give me your answer."

Ann picked up her purse but hesitated, not moving for a long while.

That bitch Claudia was on good terms with the Ferguson women and with York's friends. Even if she did divorce York, Ann couldn't afford to burn that bridge.

Wendy's plan was workable, but way too risky. She needed to consider it carefully and couldn't agree just yet. However, testing the old woman was necessary.

With that in mind, Ann spoke. "Mrs. Ferguson, regardless of anything else, Ethan is a Ferguson descendant. My mother and my brother's family had a disagreement recently, and the child was frightened by it. Could you perhaps persuade York to spend more time with his son?"

Wendy met Ann's gaze, and Ann looked down, unable to hold it.

"You have a point," Wendy said. "After all, the child is York's own flesh and blood. Bring the boy out later this evening. I'll call York, and we can all have dinner together as a family." Wendy deliberately emphasized the word 'family.'

After Ann left, Darleen hurried over from a nearby table. "Mom, what were you talking to that Ann woman about for so long?"

Wendy lifted her coffee cup and took a small sip.

Ann wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but her ambition was vast. She would never let an opportunity like this pass her by.

He immediately tried to contact Claudia, but she rejected his call and sent him a text. It said she would be having dinner at Grant Manor and that he shouldn't wait for her.

A heavy feeling settled in York's chest. He stared at his phone, his face grim, silent for a long time. Mark saw his boss's expression darken yet again and quickly found an excuse to leave the office.

After work, York went home first. As expected, Claudia wasn't there. At seven o'clock, he arrived at the restaurant Wendy had chosen. When he pushed open the door to the private room and saw Ann James and her son, his expression instantly froze.

Wendy pointed to the empty seat beside Ann. "What are you standing there for? Sit down."

York remained rooted to the spot. "Mom, what exactly are you trying to do?"
