Wendy's voice was light and airy. "If even a simple mug has to be bought with my son's money, I assume nothing else in this apartment has any connection to you, Miss James."
Ann kept her head down, not daring to meet Wendy's eyes.
After all, York and Claudia weren't divorced yet. Every penny she spent of York's money was improper.
Wendy raised a hand, and several bodyguards stepped forward.
She shot Ann a look of utter disgust. "Miss James, considering you have a child with you, I'll give you thirty minutes. Pack your bags and get out."
"Mrs. Ferguson, you can't be so cruel to us!" Ann said in disbelief.
"What I'm doing now is being polite," Wendy retorted. "The day my son and daughter-in-law are officially divorced, I'll show you what true cruelty is."
Terrified by Wendy's expression, Ann slowly lowered the phone she had been about to use.
York's attitude toward her was currently ambiguous, and he was still dragging his feet on divorcing that woman, Claudia. This was not the time to cross this old shrew or start a fight.
Swallowing her pride, Ann took her son into the bedroom to pack.
Half an hour later, Ann emerged pulling a suitcase, only to be stopped by the bodyguards.
One bodyguard opened the suitcase to inspect it, while another stepped in front of Ann. "Miss James, please leave the designer bag on your shoulder."
Ann glanced at Wendy, then put the bag down in humiliation.
A bodyguard produced a trash bag, emptied the entire contents of her purse into it, and handed the plastic bag to Ann.
Ann bit her lip, accepting the trash bag in shame, wishing the ground would swallow her whole.
She would make that old woman regret how she treated her today.
That afternoon, at York and Claudia's marital home.
Mark and the butler were supervising a team of movers carrying valuables from the second-floor master bedroom and study into a truck.
In the yard, Peter scoffed at York. "It's not the house Claudia finds dirty, it's you. What's the point of moving?"
Peter continued, "As long as you refuse to explain, Claudia will never forgive you. Just wait for her to file for divorce."
York, dressed in an expensive black business suit, his expression unreadable, replied, "I'm letting her continue her studies abroad to give her time to calm down. I won't give her the chance to sue me for divorce."
Just as he finished speaking, he saw Ann getting out of a taxi, crying.
