Never Mistake a Queen for a Lapdog novel Chapter 1246

Claire had been spacing out, and when her gaze casually drifted up, she walked right into the visual trap.

She froze for a split second before realizing exactly how obvious her lingering stare was.

As if burned, she violently wrenched her eyes away, but the tips of her ears ignited uncontrollably.

Wilbur walked right up to her, catching every ounce of her flustered panic.

He didn't say a word at first. He just looked down at her crimson ears, his tongue casually pushing against the inside of his cheek as a teasing, predatory glint surfaced in his eyes.

Even though Claire refused to look at him, she could feel his heavy gaze pinned on her.

And he was staring with absolute, shameless audacity!

The worst part was her own lack of self-control—she had actually gotten distracted staring at his chest!

Men were truly a dangerous distraction!

A very dangerous distraction!

But then again...

Wilbur's physique was absolutely top-tier!

Way better than any male actor she had ever seen in the industry!

Perhaps to spare her from the suffocating awkwardness, Wilbur finally broke the silence. "I asked my assistant to prepare some clothes for you. They'll be here soon. Sit down and wait a bit."

"...Okay." Claire was completely incapable of making eye contact with him now.

Even her reply sounded mumbled and evasive.

"Want some water?" he asked.

"Yes."

Wilbur got up, poured her a glass of hot water, handed it to her, and then casually sat down right next to her.

The distance between them was entirely too close.

So close she could practically feel the body heat radiating off of him.

A crisp scent of cedar mixed with the faintest hint of mint drifted from his neck.

It was the intoxicating smell of someone fresh out of the shower, when the pores were still open and radiating warmth.

It wasn't overpowering, yet it aggressively invaded her senses.

Claire's fingers involuntarily tightened around her glass.

That scent of cedar and mint quietly and seamlessly enveloped her entirely.
