Never Mistake a Queen for a Lapdog novel Chapter 1236

Claire immediately turned to ask the staff if there had been a mistake.

"Get in," Wilbur ordered effortlessly, already looking away. His long fingers tapped an impatient rhythm against his knee.

Claire weighed her options before finally sliding into the car. First, standing frozen on the curb made her an easy target for the horde of paparazzi camped out across the street. Second, she knew exactly how stubborn Wilbur could be. If she refused, he would happily block traffic and wait her out all night. She shut the door, and the massive car immediately pulled away from the venue.

The interior of the Phantom was like a soundproof vault; the only noise was the faint, luxurious hum of the climate control. The starlight ceiling cast a soft, fractured glow over Claire's white-knuckled grip on her dress.

Wilbur turned to look at her, his profile cast in striking shadows by the passing streetlights.

He broke the silence, his voice darker than the night outside. "Did you have fun tonight?"

"Of course," Claire replied, forcing her tone to remain flat. "I took the top sales spot."

"As long as you're happy." Wilbur smirked, his intense gaze never leaving her face.

The car glided smoothly through the city streets.

Claire's mind was racing with questions. Why was he picking her up? Shouldn't he be off comforting Rowan right now? Or had he already managed to soothe his new girl and was now flexing his master-level time management skills to squeeze Claire in too? Given Wilbur's notorious playboy reputation, it was entirely possible.

Despite her burning curiosity, she didn't ask. She had no reason to, and no right to either. Instead, she asked casually, "When did you switch cars? Where's your Cullinan?"

Since she had met him, she had only seen him use two vehicles: the Cullinan and the Maybach. Mona was currently sitting in the Maybach. This was the first time she had ever seen him in this Phantom. Judging by the pristine interior, it was brand new.

"Sold it," Wilbur said simply.

What? Claire looked at him in total bewilderment. If the Cullinan was sold, then who the hell had just picked up Rowan?
