Even the crumbs he tossed out were enough to ensure she would live in luxury for the rest of her life.
"Boss, you are too generous!" Tabitha beamed, instantly slipping into an eager, sycophantic grin.
"Next time! Next time you need a pawn to buy jewelry, you call me immediately! I am at your beck and call!"
"Go home and actually watch her movies so you don't blow your cover next time," he drawled.
"You got it!" Tabitha chirped.
Thank god Wilbur had given her a crash course before the gala, otherwise she absolutely would have ruined the illusion in front of Claire.
"But seriously, if you like her this much, you should just sweep her off her feet publicly. If you do all this in the dark, how is she ever going to notice you?" Tabitha was genuinely baffled.
"She's married."
Wilbur delivered the words with chilling indifference, as casually as flicking dust off his cufflink, but the temperature in the room instantly plummeted.
Tabitha's smile froze on her face. Oh... so that was the twisted game he was playing.
Claire stayed until the very end of the gala before finally heading to the exit. The organizers had arranged transportation to take the guests back to their hotels. While waiting in the lobby, she overheard a flood of industry gossip.
Mona whispered that Rowan had thrown an apocalyptic tantrum, completely trashing her dressing room and screaming every curse word in the book. Rowan had apparently pre-paid for massive PR blasts claiming she was the 'Top Seller,' pushing the campaign across every major platform and dropping a fortune to secure the number one trending spot.
