The scalding liquid splashed across the floor, soaking the bottom half of Felix's pants.
"Mr. Quigley!" Secretary Lynwood shrieked in horror.
Felix winced, his face twisting in agony from the burning heat.
Madeline snapped out of her blind rage, panic washing over her face. "I—I didn't mean to... Felix, are you hurt?"
She reached out to grab him, but Felix violently shoved her hands away.
Claire stared at his arm. The heavy bandages wrapped around his bicep were already blooming with fresh red stains.
The impact had ripped his stitches wide open.
She was genuinely stunned that he had taken the hit for her.
But in the grand scheme of things, his heroic sacrifice was just pathetic.
"Doctor! We need a doctor!" Secretary Lynwood screamed, bolting down the hallway.
Madeline reached for him again, sobbing hysterically. "Felix, let me help you get it treated, you're bleeding again."
"Get the hell out!" he snarled, his voice vibrating with raw fury. "Don't touch me!"
Madeline stared at him in utter disbelief. Tears spilled down her cheeks as she choked out, "Felix..."
"I never want to see your face again!" He didn't even look at her.
He was completely blind to her tears, treating her like she didn't exist.
Claire raised an eyebrow. He really had changed his tune when it came to his precious childhood friend.
But frankly, it wasn't her problem. She turned on her heel to walk away.
"Claire," Felix called out, his voice desperate. "Aren't you going to come with me to get this treated?"
Claire paused, finding the question both absurd and incredibly presumptuous.
"And why would I do that?" she asked, her voice dripping with ice. "She threw that at me because of you. You took the hit to pay off her debt. I don't owe either of you a damn thing."
"So tell me, why on earth would I go with you?"
To Claire, the mere suggestion was an insult.
Felix was paralyzed by her words. His arm, which he had instinctively reached out to stop her, froze in mid-air.
