Never Mistake a Queen for a Lapdog novel Chapter 1227

"No wonder everyone loves a secret affair. The thrill really is addictive."

Before she could process the words, he leaned in and captured her lips again.

"Mmph!"

Claire let out a muffled gasp. Operating entirely on panicked instinct, she raised her hand and slapped him across the face.

It wasn't a brutal hit, but it carried enough sting to leave a mark.

Wilbur slowly turned his head to the side.

Claire's palm burned, a tingling numbness spreading to her fingertips.

Regret slammed into her the second she made contact.

But her pride refused to let her apologize. He had crossed the line first.

Fueled by righteous anger, she shoved hard against his chest, ignored her trembling legs, yanked the door open, and fled down the hall.

Wilbur didn't chase her.

When the door clicked shut, he pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek. His knuckles leisurely traced his jawline, right where the soft, scorching heat of her hand had struck him.

His eyes darkened, his Adam's apple bobbing slowly in his throat.

How frustrating.

Why did her hands have to smell so damn good?

...

Wilbur didn't return to the private dining room until the dinner was wrapping up.

When he finally walked back in, his expression was completely unreadable.

As the group spilled out of the restaurant, the director began coordinating rides back to the hotel.

Jaxson Grant, the actor playing the third male lead, immediately spoke up. "Director, Claire and I are staying at the same hotel. I can take her back."

"Perfect. You two head out together."

He turned his attention to Rowan.

Before he could assign her a car, she batted her eyelashes and cooed at Wilbur. "Mr. Prescott, would you mind giving me a ride?"

Wilbur offered a faint smile, though his aura remained chillingly detached. "Where are you staying? I wouldn't want to go out of my way."

Rowan's shamelessness knew no bounds. "Wherever you're staying, Mr. Prescott. I can stay there too."

Even the director cringed at that.
