Never Mistake a Queen for a Lapdog novel Chapter 1003

Noreen's tone remained as icy as the winter weather outside. "No."

Seth did some quick mental math.

It wasn't that time of the month, either.

"Did the deal with Regaluxe Group hit a snag?"

He ventured another guess.

Otherwise, why was she in such a terrible mood?

Noreen glanced up at him. "It went perfectly, thank you."

Before Seth could press further, Noreen cut him off. "Get out. I'm busy. Don't bother me unless it's important."

Seth paused. "Understood, Ms. Gilmore."

Utterly bewildered, he stepped out of her office and bumped into Sophia Cole, who was dropping off documents.

"Did something happen today?" Seth asked her.

"Does Ms. Gilmore closing a billion-dollar project count?" Sophia replied.

"That's great news."

"Of course it's great news!" Sophia beamed. "That's why Department Three sent me to get her signature for this quarter's bonus requests. She's always in the best mood when she signs these."

"Anyway, I can't chat. I need to get these signed." Sophia hugged the folders to her chest and vanished into Noreen's office.

Seth felt even more lost.

So, what on earth was wrong with her?

He went back to his desk and racked his brain, but still couldn't figure it out.

He decided he would just have to pry it out of her when he accompanied her to tonight's reception.

But the moment Sophia walked out of the office, she marched right up to him. "Ms. Gilmore said I'm going with her tonight. You can just clock out."

Seth was speechless.

After a brief conference call, Noreen left early for the event.

When she stepped out of her office, Seth was still at his desk.

The second her door clicked open, his eyes locked onto her.

But Noreen didn't cast a single glance in his direction. She strode right past his workstation and headed straight for the executive elevator.

Jude's face instantly fell. "Then don't tease me. I thought my knight in shining armor had finally arrived."

"Get me an invitation to the Prospera Health reception tonight."

Jude was confused. "What do you need an invite for? Aren't you supposed to be going with Director Gilmore?"

Silence hung on the line.

Seth didn't answer.

Jude suddenly caught on. "Are you two fighting?"

"No," Seth denied flatly.

"Then it's a cold war!"

Another bout of silence.

After years of being ruthlessly overworked, Jude suddenly felt a surge of pure, vengeful joy. "Hahahaha! I never thought I'd see the day you'd be in the doghouse!"

But before he could revel in it for more than two seconds, Seth's voice dropped to a glacial chill. "Are you done laughing?"

A cold sweat broke out on Jude's back, and his laughter died instantly. "Uh, right. I'll have someone drop off the invitation right away."
