My Great Escape Led Me to You (Emily Blair) novel Chapter 792

“He really couldn’t make it in time. When we called you, he was still on his way. I just told him to wait outside the hospital, just offhand, but he actually stood there the whole time, waiting.”

Jesse nearly gagged inwardly. If it weren’t for Tristan’s love life, he’d never believe he’d go out of his way to explain things for him—he was only worried Andrew Lane might swoop in and take advantage of the situation.

Emily Blair smiled softly at this. “Alright, I understand.”

Jesse started to trip over his own words. “What I mean is, um… Ms. Blair, please don’t forget about Tristan—wait, I don’t mean it like that, I just—”

Emily Blair pressed her lips together, a hint of amusement in her eyes. “I know what you’re trying to say.”

Jesse could hardly stay another second. He straightened up. “Well, that’s all I wanted to say, so I’ll get going now.”

Emily nodded, watching as Jesse practically bolted from the hospital room. She shook her head, half exasperated, half amused.

Maybe Jesse was just too flustered, because he forgot to close the door behind him as he left. The hallway outside buzzed with the sounds of people coming and going, voices raised, the distant wail of someone crying.

Emily barely paid attention at first, but the crying was obvious, and there were some shouts mixed in too.

The commotion grew so loud that Emily frowned and looked toward the door. Through the bustle, she could just make out a few figures hurrying past.

She listened for a little while, but the noise faded quickly, and she soon lost interest.
